I met him years ago -- he was an impressive man!

He talked about outrunning the SS on skis. Only one German could keep up with him. He said, "He could go downhill faster than I could, but I could go uphill faster than him. When we got to the top, we both fired. He fell and I skied into Sweden."

Vern - that scene you described of the skiing is in the film "Heroes of Telemark," about the heavy water factory sabotage during WWII. One of my favorite movies. Check it out.
