          And food. Some of these people were literally worked to death.

          As far as baths go the Tsar's family as privileged as they were had to take cold baths due to lack of facilities back then. Not a good thing in freezing Russia. I imagine few people had a tub to bath in, no running water and of course bathrooms were outhouses back then. They wrote the book on poverty.

            Some years back, the Russians renamed a lot of small villages. The original names, like "Naked" and "Starving" were too embarrassing.
