    Back of the bus.

Recently a comment was made about riding in the back of the bus and the comment was used in a negative venue. Most people don't realize that the back of the bus is preferable for a variety of reasons. First of all it is safer in an accident, usually those in the front suffer the most injuries with the vehicle absorbing the majority of the damage. 2nd is less nose and privacy, no one in back of you to irritate you and you are always faced forward for any conversation, 3rd is security, you are always seeing who is coming in your direction. When I was a kid I always took the rear seat for the above named advantages, plus on our bus the large heater was in the rear and I was always comfortably warmer in the winter. Instead of looking at anything in a negative manner, look at turning it into a positive to be happier.

and on buses that have them, you're closer to the bathroom!

Anyone who has ridden a bus even occasionally knows that the rear seats are the best in the house. The dems use "the back of the bus" to denote bad treatment of their client groups. Regards, Clark

I rode on school buses for many years back in the day. The back seats always filled first.

Guessing there are not a lot of mass transit riders on this forum. Perhaps our resident historian can rise to the moment and explain to a rapt audience the circumstances surrounding the bus boycotts in places like Montgomery and Baton Rouge.

"We sat in back of the school bus in high school so there's your proof that there was no discrimination in transit services." Very Allen-y.

Have rode busses ... both school and municipal. Worked at the bus station. Understand the bit about back of bus ala segregation. Old school civil rights folks need to get over it. They won. Nobody cares about lunch counters, buses, etc. nowadays ... unless they are left wing liberal living in the past. Kelly made a pile of money off abc. And abc made a bit of money b/c Kelly was on the show. Of course the og's that were already there resented her for reasons obvious and less obvious. Now the og's will be back to where they were. Kelly ... she'll do fine as long as her looks hold out. About the same as all the female talk shop folks. Sincerely. bruce.

Togor why are you so filled with anger, is your life that miserable? I was not talking about anything that you are now pertaining to, yet you must inject hatred into the conversation. What family of origin issue are you still carry from your native Haiti?

Back in the day (riding electric trolley buses on city streets) I was told the blacks had to sit in the back for two reasons. They were dirty and smelled bad, and no white person should have to sit next to them and catch lice....er, cooties as they were called. Whites could open the windows and let the fresh air (In Chicago??) flow through and out the back as the bus rolled.

Now, as a kid I liked the back of the bus even though my uncle would not set foot beyond the exit door. It was a bouncy ride and fun for me. My legs were too short for the wheel wells to be a bother. Yes, I thought if I rubbed against a negro the color would come off on me. The same as little black kids thought if they rubbed against a white person they'd get chalk dust all over them.

I sometimes ride the bus - as a Senior, it cost a mere dollar
so it's cheaper than driving and I get to see the scenery.
However the rear apparently has no suspension and our
roads are very potholy. I actually went up in the air at
one particularly big pothole. "bone shaker"

You do realize that in some amusement parks this type of fun would cot more then a saw buck.
