Bottom line is they skipped out. Unable to fend for themselves. We'll have to pay their debts one way or another no matter how. All because they took the money expecting an entitlement type salary with pretty much worthless degrees in the real world. They MAJORED in that BS thinking it would pave their road with gold overnight. Now they want sympathy from those of us who pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps?

    Screw them.

One point: "PROS"??? There are absolutely none, unless (like you) one hates Western civilization.

Another problem is the worthless degrees a lot of these students are paying for, anything that ends in "studies", unfortunately they don't find it out until they have amassed this huge debt.

Most of the people you're talking about don't expect the gravy train to end. They'll become "activists" working for some nutty cause, or become professors of Sandpile and Recess at some college in California.

Not so sure about that, because every big corp. in the country now forces their employees to undergo "sensitivity" training of some kind (as Starbucks just did on a massive scale), & the extortionists hired to conduct this brainwashing are the ones with degrees in "women's studies, "gender studies," "African studies," etc. It IS extortion, because when these shame-mongers offer their "services" to big companies, any that might be tempted to decline are threatened with the "racist," "anti-feminist," etc. label; much cheaper to hire them than have to fight the bad press of refusing.

Some of these loans are backed by the government. Not sure how much since we've put my kids through without drawing on them. But not enough up front scrutiny on what is or isn't a good loan. And who knows which kids end up being credit-worthy? All I know is that every one of my kids knew that puff degrees were not going to be part of any program underwritten by mom & dad. This was drilled into them from a young age so they knew better I think then to even raise the subject. Mom & dad have multiple degrees, all of which were related to gainful employment. If everyone took that approach then there would be fewer anthropology and political science and history departments in the country but life would go on. History is worthwhile but it feels more like an age where we'd rather repeat history than learn from it, so might as well save some money and not send so many kids down a blind alley career choice.

Backed by the gov't. Which means we the people have to take up the slack at tax time.

My youngest transferred to ISU for her junior year knowing some of her previous credits would not transfer over. She had to take a couple of hours extra to make up her minor. She got them in bowling. Sheesh!
