....I saw a lot of brown skinned kids wearing whiteface this past Halloween. If it hadn't been for the recent media fueled scandal I would have never thought twice about it.

Agree BTW that the literalist interpretation of blackface/whiteface is way way over the top. Next thing we know the DoD will have to issue directives on the appropriate use of camo face paint for ops.Comment

Hair is a canvas, I think, uncoupled from skin color. These days people use shades of pastel colors in spots. Something I don't understand and hope my kids don't pick up. Same for weird piercings. In my book if you're a man and not a sea pirate then you don't pierce. And if you are a sea pirate then pierce just the left or both ears. And women--pierced nose? Why??????Comment

Rare to see any plastic masks these days. Too dangerous for kids crossing traffic and the younger ones to negotiate stairs at night. Pretty much all face paint and some of those see-through...face hoods or veils for lack of knowing the proper name. Most all were goblins, ghouls, skulls and zombies. There was a pair of puertorriquena chiquitas who were very whitefaced. They were a pair of mimes and pulled off the act very well. They got a handful of treats each for their performance.
Hair...I'm getting used to the notion that the younger ones change hair color like changing socks. Hair is just part of the clothing fashion nowadays. Certainly not my style but it is theirs. I still see some that make me stop and say "WTF???". I was pumping my gas in Wood Dale IL on Thursday when this dark skinned guy pulled up to the opposite side of the pumps from me. Late thirties, early forties or so wearing work clothes. Jeans, flannel shirt, boots... As I mentioned he was dark skinned but his hair was bright Kelly Green. If he wanted attention he was surely getting it.
