    Soybean Exports in the News

    http://m.startribune.com/farmers-bra...ank/499508531/

There is some interesting info in the article. For example, the break even price on beans is about $9/bushel. At 33 1/3 bushels of soybeans/ton, that's $300/ton of beans. Exports have dropped off from 30M tons/week to almost nil since the tariffs, or $9B/week. The USDA is pledging $12B in aid to bean farmers, who for now are sitting on beans they don't want to sell because the market price is too low. The taxpayers can't afford to buy all those beans, yet proceeds from their sale are needed to finance the next crop and service ongoing debt. No easy way out of this Charlie Foxtrot.

Market would suggest, if demand drops...you make less beans.

What they need is better representation in Washington to get more earmarks.

It's bleak at the moment but all is not lost yet. Other markets are entertaining the idea of picking up the slack the Chinese have created. China has cut the soybean rations to their people. They'll muddle through for a little while as they (China) are still exploring other markets.
Should Europe and Africa cough up some cash, China had better find something to stifle a few billion grumbling chinamen. This is only the first round. Stay tuned to see what happens. Trade games always seem to have surprise end results. That also includes some unintended consequences.

Bottom line is the tariffs have finally drawn some real attention.

Yep. And that's a lot cheaper than shooting.

One of the wifes sisters and her husband have 2000 + acres of soy and corn down in South America ..... they've asked us to pass along many thank you's to trump .

They also have a large chicken farm that took a beating because American chicken farms could send cheap chickens to Colombia due to the cheap labor we used to have here.

          go figure

Canuck traders have discovered that they can abitrage Canadian beans to the Chinese market while taking delivery on US beans at a lower price. With piles of them mounting south of the border in ND, this looks like a lucrative play.
