About a month ago, I looked out my bedroom window, and saw two little teddy bears gamboling through my pasture just like those in the picture. Just as they went into the woods, my pit bull saw them and took off after them, howling.

In a little while, he came back very quietly, climbed up on the porch and lay down in his dog house.

The moral of this story is, if you want to catch a BIG bear, chase a couple of LITTE bears.

There used to be a show called Porter's Ridge on one of the cable channels. It might have been on the Honey Doo Doo channel because it was every bit as dumb. It was mildly entertaining but I watched it for the country scenery. One of the characters always had a bear cub following him around like a puppy. He took the bear every where and played with it like a pup. That was about the best part of the show and also the plot. I think the show only lasted one or two seasons.

I wrote a TV series once -- it was about a man in the 19th Century who was accused of murder, ran away to the Rocky Mountains, met an old prospector with a mule and so on. They stole it from me!

And they only made one change. In the version that appeared on TV the hero had a bear. In my original version, he had chronic diarrhea. I called it "Drizzly Adams."
