Why can't the Florida Democrats get that "insurance votes" thing done earlier? The boxes, computer software, ballots and instructions all come as a set from the DNC catalog. Someone didn't read the manual.

Better yet, since they are going to win anyway why don't they just count the ballots before the elections and save everyone a lot of time and trouble?

My view remains that voting rights and gun rights should be equally liberal or equally restrictive. My preference is for the former but YMMV.

As a former County Election Commissioner, I have investigated several cases of voter fraud. Most voter fraud is committed with absentee ballots. Here's how it works:

First, the cheaters get a copy of the list of registered voters -- that's perfectly legal.
Next, they get a copy of the phone book.
Then they match the two up -- and fill out voter registration forms for anyone who IS in the phone book, but NOT on the voter registration lists. These forms are mailed in, and viola! the people are registered.

After a while, they send in absentee ballot requests, asking the ballots be sent to collection points. And nowadays in Arkansas, where we require photo IDs, they photoshop Driver's Licenses, changing the numbers and putting in new pictures. These are printed out to accompany the absentee ballots when they send them in.

                Voter fraud is shockingly easy.

Now that's what I call sophistry!

Notice not a single number listed to quantify the extent of the fraud, and this for a process, counting ballots, that is all about numbers. How high is the rate of absentee voter fraud? Shockingly high! That's all you need to know! That's all he wants you to know.

As it happens people have looked at it numerically.

The president has continued to claim voter fraud was a problem in the 2016 election. A look at the facts makes clear fraud is rare, and does not happen on a scale even close to necessary to “rig” an election.

Errors in voting/counting/registration, all of it, including fraud, bubble on the order of 0.01% of noise in the measurement. Turnout meanwhile hovers at around 50%, give or take in the big elections, and much less than that in the lesser ones. So non-participation is a greater effect than fraud. The whole anti-voter-fraud business is nothing more than a voter suppression campaign.

My position remains that voting rights and firearms rights, which I will call Twin Pillars of Liberty, should be protected with similar zeal. I take a dim view at restrictions to either. Let's see Vernon find flaw with that.

From one article on Florida. In a Democratic leaning Broward County, there were fewer reported votes for Senator than Commissioner of Agriculture. Why should that be? Nefarious scheme or technical glitch? In any case, count the ballots to be sure. Nothing wrong with that.

One reason for hope for Nelson is that a traditionally Democratic area, Broward County, has so far reported fewer votes for the Senate race compared with the gubernatorial race, according to data compiled by MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki. In other Florida counties, no such discrepancy exists. While some of the discrepancy could be due to genuine undervotes—for instance, the design of the ballot may have led some voters to miss it and not vote in that race—it’s possible that the county hasn’t correctly counted all the ballots. About 24,000 ballots in Broward County registered a vote in the governor’s race but not for the Senate race.

The discrepancy with the Senate race tally is consistent down the ballot, with more votes cast in lower-profile races like commissioner of agriculture, chief financial officer, and attorney general than in the Senate race, according to the preliminary county results. As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 675,216 votes had been counted in the Senate race in Broward (466,321 for Nelson and 208,895 for Scott). By comparison, the gubernatorial race had 701,080 cast in Broward, and even the commissioner of agriculture race had 685,440 total votes while the chief financial officer race had 685,017 votes.

Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias told the Sun Sentinel that he thinks the undervotes were due to voting machines not detecting genuine votes. “I am pretty confident what you are going to see are markings that were not picked up by the machines or a calibration issue that was not registering that part of the ballot,” he said.
