    Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn ...

With countless thousands of ordinary folk having their
most valuable possession burned to the ground, just
who the hell cares whether these narcissistic Hollywood
types have had theirs either damaged or destroyed.
They have insurance and in any case could pay for a
rebuild out of petty cash. My feelings are with the poor
souls who have lost everything and will have to wait
for many months before their claims are taken care of,
if ever. Last years fire victims are still waiting.

I'll be glad when it rains.

      Ill gotten gains.

I've read where the looting is so bad that some of the burglars are dressing up as forestry rangers so they won't be detected. One of many reasons people don't want to evacuate or wait till the last minute to leave.

I'm sure they're all well insured, over insured.

I may have told this before. If you go to Mount Saint Helens, they have a museum there, and they play clips of TV news of the period leading up to and following the irruption. Featured rather prominently in those clips is an 80+year old gentleman named Harry Truman. He and his wife had a fishing camp on Spirit Lake at the base of the mountain. She passed away and he was still living there. He refused to evacuate, and he's buried under about 600 feet of volcanic debris.

Because of him, they changed the law. Now, if the Governor orders an evacuation, you HAVE to go.

Now stop and think a minute. Where is an 80+year old man going to go? How is he going to live afterwards?

Why don't we let the Harry Trumans of this world make up their OWN minds and choose their own fates?

No, I'm down in Marin County - but those fires and last years fires
scare the sh!t out of me as I'm surrounded by huge Redwoods.

Vern, again, I agree with you wholeheartedly, but Harry was an old guy and had nowhere to go and I'm sure it was quite the ride. I'd probably do the same. He was one unique man. The rest of these people are too monkey fisted to let go of their places and it is to their detriment. Heck, it might be a good investment; build a sloppy place in CA, when it burns down(and it's going to happen, if not this year the next) get a pile of money. There's nothing that can't be gamed. Seriously, some folks are ruined and there has been death. It's no joke but, c'mon, it's as common as spring break. Maybe march to Honduras or somewhere new.

Fire can and does happen anywhere, it doesn't matter. Fire is a good servant and a horrible master, that is the reason for fire alarms and extinguishers.

You -- and people run around saying, "People shouldn't be allowed to live in places like that."

Hmmm . . . find me a place that ISN'T likely to have a wildfire, tornado, hurricane, earthquake or flood.

Well, if there can be a bright side to this, many of these people who have evacuated or have concern over the fires are the ones who said they wanted to move to Canada and elsewhere anyway.

                          Doubtful, considering it's not celebrities.

Where's another devastating hurricane when you need one?

It doesn't happen too often in the Sahara.

No, they have their OWN problems in the Sahara.
