Germany signed a large contract to buy most of their natural gas from a pipeline to Russia. This makes them totally dependent on Russia for this source of energy. Now NATO was conceived to protect them from Russia. So why should Uncle Sam still foot a large bill and risk American lives to protect Germany? The hell with the Germans and the French.
