    Question

If President Trump decided, due to the reporter flap, not to live at the White House instead living in Florida could he be stopped? As a private residence Trump could bar anyone from entering due to it being a private residence. Also, no where in the Constitution is living in the White House a requirement to being President.

Presidents have had had private homes or retreats for generations. FDR had one a Warm Springs, GA (where he went for the therapeutic waters.) There were sentry boxes for Marines all around the house.

The POTUS can probably do whatever they want, but if there is an incident and people find out about it, there may be a political cost depending on the severity of that incident. A POTUS who bars the press also forgoes an opportunity to shape the press narrative.

Last time I looked access to the White House is EXTREMELY restricted, the Secret Service has broad authority to vet guest lists, internal access is EXTREMELY restricted even to employees, guests must be logged in and out and escorted in many cases.

Oh, you think Trump could shape CNN's or MSNBC's narrative ?

            Thankfully the voters can!

The point DT is that any administration has to decide whether to engage the press or ignore them.

I guess President Trump decided to no longer engage a CNN reporter that acted like an ass. Too bad?

What gives the press the right to have a press pass issued to the White house. I can't get into the press meetings or can I?

No you can't -- and the funny thing is, there is no official definition of a reporter. You could truthfully claim to be a reporter -- based on your posts here. But you still couldn't get in.

All I know is if I had been Trump the only thing I would have done differently is I would have had security physically remove jim Acosta. If he is allowed back in Trump should ignore his questions. If he tries to interrupt he should be silenced or removed again. The best thing since most all the news media are in bed together is to stop having press conferences all together. If it is required of him he can just make a speech and leave with no questions.

Or hold press briefings by invitation only.

Remember the Andy Griffin Show of "Citizen's Arrest!, Citizen's Arrest!" that would be the CNN mouthpiece mouth running off.

Like Red China or the DPRK. Good to know how your sensibilities are evolving on this topic, that an administration now has a right to expect only fawning coverage. Let's file that away for future reference. Next thing you'll tell us is that nobody is a bigger supporter of the first amendment than you.

With "rights" comes responsibilities as well. " You salute the rank, not the man!" should apply. I didn't particularly like Obama as President, I did respect the office he held.
