He was a nice man, but a lousy President ...

They say he was a nice man so I'll take their word for it,
but as a President he fell far short of expectations,
especially considering the great state of affairs he had
been left by his ex boss - a really great President.
So, it seems to me that all this pomp and circumstance
being heaped on him is somewhat over the top.
The liberal press hated him when he was alive, so now
they love him when he's dead. Typical hypocrisy.
Anyway, I hope he gets to meet Barbara.

He was a good man. Probably the most active VP I have ever seen during Reagans second term. He had Ronnie's back. Bush had Quayle to cover his back. Gorbie out of power halfway through his first term as POTUS sent the world into a financial tizzy. That didn't help towards reelection.
So, we got an Arkansas Gov. with a power hungry, spoiled, Chicago suburbia, card carrying communist wife. The same people who created a lot of jobs in Arkansas...at minimum wage.

What killed his chances of re-election was gun bans and "read my lips"

Read my lips, no new taxes. Back then I knew it would be near impossible. Besides, I'm from Chicago. They can avoid new taxes by raising the rates on old ones. Now they do both. They impose new taxes AND raise the old ones.

Re: Re-election. Bush failed to toe the line on taxes and guns and so the conservatives/Republicans voted for Clinton? Or did they vote for none of the above? Regardless ... it resulted in the demokrats having control of the White House, etc. for eight years. We'd have been much much better off to have supported and re-elected Bush. The consequence of our failure to support Bush was that the nation was saddled with Clinton. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Exactly the same kind of rave-up given McCain & for the same reason--glorifying Trump's enemies in the press is another way of bashing Trump.

We can thank Ross Perot for Clinton. IMHO he was the biggest political snake oil salesman this country ever saw.

braking his promises on Tax, just blew it for me. Overall, he wasn't some bad compared to the Clinton and Obozo.

ESL? I make typos myself, as do we all, but holy cow. If someone can't master the rudimentary basics of the language then this goes to their politics.

What killed his chances of re election was an intense 5 year recession . May not have entirely his fault but up in the North East construction workers saw their hourly wage drop 30 % and average 7 months work a year for five years ..... very similar to what happened to them at the end of his sons time in office .

Anyway ... that's what got him the boot . As far as raising taxes... he had no choice.... those tax cuts simply were not sustainable .

Perot had some deep seated animus against Bush. Clinton won with just 43% of the popular vote, that might b the lowest of any president. Does anyone know what the beef was about?
