Remember a friend of one of my uncles called Monty. His son was killed on the Arizona. His son was a 18 year old seaman 2c, Robert E. Montgomery from Oakland, CA.

Only today's CBS Evening News so much as mentioned it. ABC, NBC, PBS, were totally preoccupied with Mueller, Russia, & assorted other Trump-bashings.

However, both TCM & History devoted programming to WWII themes.

The national news "services" have an agenda to carry out that, in their minds, is far too critical to be bothered with historical events like the Pearl Harbor attack.

Yeah Trump skipped mention of it too. What's going on these days?

Witnesses to history are dying off.

Responding to ceaseless, implacable attacks by the media leaves little time for other considerations. Never relenting even for such a special day in making those attacks is the reason most of the media also skipped it.

It takes how long to send a tweet?

To be honest, I cut people slack. Even Trump. 9/11 is sort of the new 12/7 now.

Both less significant as time goes on unfortunately. For some, that time has already passed.

I've seen plenty of Pearl Harbor Memorial references, but I'm also connected to those that perform them.

The affront to our nation on December 7, 1941 and the grief of those near to the 2000 service men and women who died on that day will be largely forgotten. But if the significance of that event and of the ensuing global conflict in which over 60,000,000 people worldwide lost their lives is forgotten, this world will be in serious trouble indeed.

And that, my friends, is where I fear we're headed.

Agree. Certain politicians seem to be a race with each other to dismantle the security structures put in place after WW2 that have prevented major wars ever since. Not that those structures can't benefit from maintenance, because they can, but rather than try to fix them, they want to tear them apart completely in pursuit, we are told, but without specifics, of "terrific deals". History tells us what follows when xenophobes in respective countries collectively start getting political and military power.

The ONLY thing that "prevented major wars ever since" was SAC--ie, OUR nuclear deterrence, which doesn't include whatever puny contributions NATO might have made. Where was NATO when Soviet tanks were crushing with great brutality the revolts in Hungary & Czechoslovakia? Answer: NATO is only called in against forces too weak to fight back effectively.

I have a good friend who is a Special Forces instructor. He told me of a joint NATO training exercise where the exercises had to be put on hold in the middle of the training event because the German troops had reached there maximum number of working hours for the week. We will have to remember this detail the next time we schedule a worldwide conflict. NATO likes to build fancy expensive headquarters in Europe and prance around, but is hardly an effective fighting force. It has flexed its puny muscles against impotent targets like Bosnia and Libya.

I remember a planned Mass Casualty exercise that got canceled because it wasn't politically correct.
