Like I've said before, I used to be a cubmaster when my son was young. The boyscout council really pushed their luck on telling the parents what they could or could not do as the council provided NOTHING. In fact everything they deemed as required had to be purchased through them including uniforms, patches, literature and even liability insurance for the leaders. Then they were always pushing the leaders to sell popcorn or girlscout cookies using our time and gas just to make a quarter or so on a $5.00 box.
The latest has been that queers and trans queers would be allowed to be scouts and the girls and boys would mix and so on. I guess the parents fought back and said "NO".
In short, scouting is a good thing but it is only because the parents make it so by coming up with events, trips and projects entirely on their own. The councils (boy and girl) could care less about the kids except for how much money they can raise for them. It is a racket.
Some churches provide similar organizations. That is the route to take if a child has interest in such.Comment

Tragic, but the directors asked for it by abandoning BSA values in order to placate Sodomites & other left-wingers.
But bankruptcy is often merely a ploy to shed old debt, so I suspect BSA will survive in some further degraded iteration. Maybe Sorus will BUY it, & turn it into a 21st C. NAMBLA!Comment

Interests change. When I was a kid, everyone played baseball. In my son's day, it became an adult-organized activity like so many others and not nearly as popular or spontaneous as in my youth.Comment

After all the Boy Scouts were a pseudo military organization with NAZI traditions... an oath to do their best to honor their country...a totally Nazi thing. Their country was a corrupt Capitalist nation that stole America from the rightful owners and totally destroyed a pristine environment. The "Founders," were racist slave owning, pigs that are now called Republicans.

In London there was a Boy Scout Shop where you could
everything needed to "be prepared" My parents took me
there and bought my uniform and a sheath knife with a
five inch blade which I wore on my belt when I took the
bus to club meets. Probably be arrested now with that.
I had great times camping and at the regular meets.

Scouting is facing the same change of interests that are being faced by field sports, hunting/fishing, shooting, golf, fishing, etc. Millennials are not rural but urban/city based. Further Scouting is being impacted by the criminal conduct of adult leaders which is the same as gymnastics, etc. Otherwise sterling sports programs have been sullied by the adults who have abused the trust of boys and girls and their parents. The overwhelming instances of abuse have been the result of heterosexual predators. Current Scouting policy followed at the local level will go a long long way to making it very difficult for such criminals to find victims. It closely follows the Safe Sanctuaries policy being used by many churches and denominations. Sincerely. bruce." Red NAZIS really. I spent my youth as a Boy Scout and I can find no correlation of Scouting and being a NAZI. If one looks at the Hitler Youth program one might make the argument that they Hitler Youth program was patterned after the Scout movement with some twists to the program. Scouting was founded well before the NAZI movement. What is wrong with teaching young men a law besides the 10 Commandments to live by or living by a oath that can make a difference in a young mans life?
