    A Sign of the Times

My church has an Angel Tree with gift requests from various local social service agencies. Several women noted that the kids' toy requests are usually for high ticket items, one woman was going to buy a "Peppa Pig" Playset-she found out it costs $90.00 !
    As one woman said:
"These kids have expensive tastes !"
Next year we're probably going to put a $25.00 limit on toy requests.

Our Deacon's get all kinds of requests for help thru out the year. Some are "desperate" for phone cards, other's to pay for their T.V. service! Some genuine ones for car repair so that they can get to work. The more the entitled, the more the demands.

It's hard to help those in need with all the ones taking advantage of a generous program as such. Some will simply use this as a means to do their Christmas shopping for them while they use their money to buy un-needed items. It's a matter of priority and responsibility. Something that seems to be vanishing as time goes on. People are slowly placing themselves into the hands of socialism and don't even realize it or care till something is asked of them.

Well, if the drugged out parent quit spending their 'free' money on drugs, they could buy their kids toys. But no, they think they are entitled to anything they can get for free. Food pantries, really? Food stamps/welfare doesn't fill up their 2-3 grocery carts enough?

Judgy churchgoers are the worst. If I was poor I'd sooner starve than accept help from the holier-than-thous.

If you were really poor you wouldn't care where your next meal came from so long as you got one.

We have the Holy Family of Stone County. A woman will call a church saying her mother just died in California. She couldn't get there before she died, but she has to go to the funeral. But her car won't make it. She has an estimate for repairs, food, lodging and gas for the trip.

We know this is a holy family, because her mother has died and been resurrected and died again five times, her father twice and her husband three times.

I’m so happy to be judged by Togor.
In my church, we support a missions outreach program which gives (as in absolutely no cost - no questions asked) several tons of food away to homeless or whomever else comes through our portals each year. We also give (as in absolutely zero cost) clothing, blankets and footwear to anyone who asks. I guess that makes us “Judgy churchgoers”.
How much does your church give to the needy, Togor? I’m sure you can come up with some astounding (and probably contrived) figure as you usually manage to do. Oh, you don’t go to church? Then how much of your individual wealth do you willingly share with others less fortunate than yourself?
You are the ultimate “holder than thou”.
Yes, I did break my promise of not reading any more of your tripe. Shame on me!

You got that right! A more hyper-judgemental, holier-than-thou person does not exist.

Maybe, but then again pride is a powerful thing, and sometimes all a man has. If the bastards ground me down first then I might endure them sh*tting on me in exchange for a meal. Hope it never comes to that.

Got my glasses on. Reread posts #1-4. Still hasn’t changed my opinion of you. You are eager to prejudge anyone that doesn’t agree with your slanted secular view of the world whether it was me or someone else. The church I spoke of is not the only one in Colorado Springs or in America to put Christian principals to work.

I hardly think this is a “judgy churchgoers” trait. You are fond of lumping all persons with differing viewpoints into categories that you criticize. Then, are super quick to criticize anyone who disagrees with your narrow, liberal point of view. Try using a “Christlike” point of view for a change. You might like it.

                          Or not!

Bill D, we've all spent enough time in church life, me included, to see the petty and self-satisfied side of it that falls well short of the Gospels. It happens, and it is a pet peeve of mine when I see it, and I saw it here. Surely you have pet peeves of your own. What I think happened is that you misread my post initially to mean that all churchgoers are judgy. You jumped in with both feet on that, twice, and I don't think you're going to walk any of it back even upon further reflection. All you really need to know is this: I wasn't talking about you or your church, neither of which have I met in person. Merry Christmas to you, sir.
