Got some personal experience on this very topic. Disclaimer, I am white.
Years ago I was a volunteer firefighter in a good size city, mostly paid firefighters. We the volunteers did a membership drive in the large busy mall. Now to be a volunteer on this department you had to have professional level FF certs plus EMT certs. So we had a number of interested people come up and I would say the number of blacks was in line with their population in the city, which was fairly high. Still a minority though. Both groups were very interested until you talked about the training time required. Then the interest dropped to about zero for both groups. What I learned was that it is very, very difficult to recruit a minority of a minority.

"Diversity" is a positive value in our society, and many colleges have Affirmative Action programs to ensure they have an ETHNICALLY diverse student body and faculty. There has been a lawsuit in the works against Chicago for discriminatory hiring practices. Those Whites/White 'Hispanics' who tested in the lower half of the top third for the Fire Department have been being passed over in favor of filling minority quotas from the lower half overall. As racist as that is, it's proof that prof is full of mierda.

Regarding nasty attitudes....can only assume you're talking about Red, who is the unquestioned champ in that department--unless you plan to use sophistry to argue otherwise. Yes you got owned again and once again you don't like it. Be more careful about your rhetoric and it won't happen.

Such out-to-lunch voices as this professor are a part of society. In the long run it's probably better to let them have their say and have it not go anywhere then to overreact to it. Taxpayers want firefighters who can handle the job, and that means physical strength and skill. This lady doesn't know jack about putting out fiires.

Not to hijack the thread, but over at the NYT there was a column about how most Americans didn't earn their citizenship, setting up a moral question as to what right do they have to deny citizenship to seekers at the border. Suffice it to say that the writer's arguments are getting hammered pretty good in the moderated comments section. Common sense has not entirely deserted the public, despite the worst fears of DT and Sid.
