    Mattis

Trump's SECDEF resigned over Syria & ISIS. Planned to stay on until the end of February but Trump cutting him loose early. If ISIS bounces back, people will blame Trump.

They already blame Trump for everything except the fall of Troy
so He may as well be hung for a Sheep instead of a Lamb.

Mattis is a General. Of what use are Generals if there's no war going on ?

Only because the average Regressive isn't well educated enough to know about Troy.

So $750B in FY 2020 DOD expenditures, but no standing army? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Or maybe Trump purges the generals like Stalin with the goal of a people's army that he leads himself?

Bosses have the right to fire underlings, the POTUS as C-in-C has the authority to relieve subordinates and dismiss cabinet officers. And if you have major disagreements with your boss,,he is still the boss.
Of what use are generals if there's no war going on ? You can't establish a fire department after the fire starts.

He publicly announced a departure with the administrations stance with his notice. Right, wrong, or indifferent the boss should let you move on and put someone in line with their goals. I have a lot of respect for Maddis and I doubt he is heartbroken over leaving early.

How much goes to defense contractors for glitzy hardware of questionable efficacy, overseen by military brass with insufficient expertise to manage such projects, but pie-in-the-sky aspirations for what these weapons systems will do? I'd guess a lot.
