License To Kill Policing To Get A Trial Run In Rio Di Janeiro

The annual number of homicides in this city makes St. Louis seem like a paradise. This is a very interesting read. Check it out:

We've already got something like that in this country: the "I felt threatened" defense, which has allowed many trigger-happy cops to walk after killing some unarmed citizen.

5,300 murders in one year suggests that the city is a virtual war zone now and under those circumstances, the proposed policy might be both necessary and justifiable. Having said that, there are a few certainties: innocent civilians will inevitably be killed; some corrupt cops will take bribes from drug gangs to kill their competition; some drug gangs who have lost members to police will carry out terrorist bombings in order to bring pressure on the government to drop the policy; a lot of people will die; there will be some local success and the government will advertise those successes but in the near future there will be little change.

I think it is...there; but in middle-class suburban neighborhoods here, no.

The change is mere possession of rifle allows sniper/spotter team to use lethal force. Before a hostile act had to be observed. It is a city that is out of control and desperate. We will see if it curbs the violence. Unless they address other issues it will probably cut down on the open carry of long guns, but will have limited impact on crime in general.

I think we should take pity on those living in such conditions and allow about 35,000 of them to move to this country. Just the nice ones, not the ones who deal drugs and carry rifles. I hope the border patrol is sure to ask them if they are killer drug dealers before giving them asylum.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

What they really need is some good ol' Democrat to go down there and help them pass some gun "reasonable," gun control measures.

This has been going on unofficially in Brazilian cities for a very long time but has not involved the actual police, at least officially. People in the middle and higher classes classes, for years have hired private security that has had almost a carte blanc to kill people who were considered a threat to their residential areas, especially the "feral" homeless, rootless children, most of whom live by petty crime, and exist in the millions in Brazil.

Our dems would love to have a "shoot on sight of a firearm" policy. The trouble with such a policy is that it goes both ways, in practice. Regards, Clark

Or it may cut down on the numbers of surviving police. This is NOT a wise policy.
