Gauge Namplate on Chinese-built Dam in Ecuador

The Chinese built a POS hydro dam in Ecuador, near an active volcano, that is falling apart. They nonetheless expect to be paid for it in discounted Ecuadorian crude oil. Letting China into the WTO was a mistake. Blame the GOP, the Clintons, the Bushes, and the American corporate class for that in any order you like.

The CHICOMS are very shrewd. They are fronting construction projects around the world and then taking them over when the host nation can't pay off the loans.

The Chinese are doing this all through South America and Africa. I'm sure that the Chinese will treat the indigenous peoples the way that they deserve to be treated.

Jeezus... give me a break. The Chinese do rotten low life deals all over the world. Nobody, NOBODY has challenged them... then a moron named Trump comes along. They have come to rule the world and that is exactly what our Stooges want to happen.

There were over 600,000 thousand Americans killed in the Civil War in the 1860's and that's 2% of the population. The next Civil War That togor is promoting, will cost 10X as many lives...

Christmas truce must be over early or is it based on GMT?

I'll give Red the fact that Trump does challenge the Chinese where others gave them a pass, BUT, if he goes about it in a half-baked way that doesn't unite the country behind him, and he fails, then maybe things get worse for losing the battle. The Chinese play Go, and Trump plays Checkers.

You can't pin the blame on anyone but the crooked bribe taking Ecuadorian politicians. The Chinese offered them a deal that both Al Capone and a Jewish tailor would be proud of. "I have such a deal for you!".
No more US intervention. Green Power. Tidy cash bonus. Partners 50/50. We build it. You use it. Everyone happy.

They got instead a crumbling dam that can't be made to work. An eco-system destroyed. People displaced. A hefty bill in the form of a juice loan. All it cost them was 80+% of Ecuador's oil and interest on a $2 billion dollar "loan". Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump didn't create the mess. They didn't help stop it but they didn't create it. Shifty Chinamen are laughing all the way to the bank while Ecuador now has a few more jailbirds.

So, South Americans aren't smart? Who knew? Dang, now we will have environmental refugees asking for asylum. "Everything sucks here", I need to go to America(you know, the real America). Long after I'm dead, there will be a seismic shift. Eventually, not everyone who lives in a dire situation will be able to walk to a better situation. Like Titanic, when the life boats are full someone will have to, guiltily shoot folks who really, really want to survive. It's a tough job. The guy on the Titanic felt awful about it. Titanic is only listing a little now.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

When I was a youngster, I heard many family members repeat over and over "Never trust the yellow men". Don't know if they were talking about WW2 Japanese or maybe Korea.

I was in west Africa, for 2 weeks, earlier this year. The Chinese were well known to swarm into an area, start some huge project, building a mine, building new bridges for the highways to the area, etc.... building badly, then, dropping everything and disappearing halfway of so into the project.

I saw a few Chinese "businessmen" on planes to/from Africa. IMO their mannerisms were very rude and arrogant, and they were treated accordingly by airline staff!

This, just a few anecdotal observations.
                      Tommy
P.S. edited to add. I noticed that on one 8 hour flight a chinese guy watched the movie "Wonder Woman" all the way through, three times!

P.P.S. When I worked in a petrochemical facility we had a list of "preferred countries of origin" for steel, piping and pipe fittings, valves, etc. It may as well had said, "Do NOT but Chinese junk!"

I think we can blame the Chinese for delivering junk. They can make good stuff....when they want to.

The junk at cheap shelf prices is intentional. The artificially suppressed Yuan is intentional. The dam is only an eye blink into China's grand scheme. That alone has Ecuador on a leash made in China. Multiply that around the world from public works projects to cheap auto parts and tools intended to fail in service. Extrapolate 100 years at current rate.
Transportation and communications crippled to less than 20% productivity. Industry cannot restart. Economy in epic fail. Military unable to mobilize at full strength
No lights, no cell phones, no McDonalds. No massive invasion necessary. Simply wait for the preppers supplies to wane. Let civil unrest take its toll. Strafe all the nice shiney solar panels and waltz right in.

In the 80's I was teased for my "BUY AMERICAN" bumper sticker. The teasers and naysayers of yesterday are the loudest whining complainers today. Somebody else always needs to do something for them. Given the hypothetical (but plausible) scenario described, it will be someone else negotiating favorable surrender terms on their behalf.

                              Togor,

Here's another "dam" scam about to play out. It would appear the Chinese are reinvesting outside of US Treasury bonds to the detriment of more country's assets.
