Is the new slogan, meanwhile my retired younger brother and his wife are moving into a secure gated community. This "place" has a roving armed security patrol 24/7 with other amenities. Personally I prefer our dogs and a low profile for us. I don't like the idea of leaving our safety to someone else, besides the financial cost is too high for my liking. My brother has mobility issues so the assistance they will get is a plus for them.

Thru out history, a wall never kept any determined 'enemy' out. The present 'wall' debate is not going to keep out people from Mexico either. There is always a way to get around a wall.

one thing I have noticed about 'gated communities'

most are not that secure,

I have been to a few to do appraisals. or gun buys from estates,

one, had an entrance road, split with median, and a gaurd house, but no gate or guard,,
another had the gaurd house, and guard, that just waved me thru
another had a gate, no guard, (used a key thing to get in apparently) and no fence,
just the gate across the road, that you could have easily driven around (pop the curb and go thru the grassy field ,,)

they last had the fancy guard house, fence for a bit on each side (but not around the entire neighborhood, and I was told the shut the gate at night, open it again in the morning,
mostly retired folks, and they had means (key fob, I guess) to open the gate if needed at night,,,

just seems to be a Security Device to make you feel more secure, without doing anything to be secure,,

what bothers me is if we build this huge wall, and our security measures are as half a$$ed as those developments I have mentioned, then we have wasted a lot of time and $$$, for nothing like Maj Tom has mentioned

What's the point of the wall when now S Americans just walk up to the border and turned themselves in and ask for asylum. There 1,000,000 asylum cases pending in the legal system now. 20,000 people were let into the country just this month. 5 billion for a nice be board for graffiti.

Gofundme for the wall is sending a message to the congress critters, which is why the LSM is spreading the idea the gub'mint isn't allowed to take the $$$$. But as long as the jobs are available, people will continue to try to get here. Go after the employers, the landlords, the welfare paper pushers. Everyone who benefits by exploiting the illegals.

If you ask the pre-Columbian inhabitants of North America, or the Celts dwelling on Great Britain, neither water barrier ultimately proved adequate to prevent immigration. I agree with those that say the place to solve the problem is at the rules about refugees, guest workers, etc. Trouble is, that will require political compromise between left and right. There will always be ways of getting physically into the country.

Well Vern... permit me to... respectfully.... point out out how many Cubans made it ashore here in Florida over the years . And we're not counting Reagans Cuban Crime wave here OK ?

Also... how many here are aware that Canada has no visa requirements for "tourists" from South America ? ......

.... guess what ? plane tickets are now cheaper than hiring a "coyote" and there are a whole lot more easy access miles on our northern border....
