It's not all that bad. How much of that is distributed across the country? If IRS is involved in an incident, then wouldn't it be wise to arm the IRS agents with IRS equipment? Equipment available locally instead of being requisitioned and shipped from elsewhere when needed? Local towns with a small force buy their practice ammo by the cases. I don't see the ammunition being out of proportion for the size of the IRS.

If every federal agency had to do that, we wouldn't have incidents like Ruby Ridge and Waco.

There isn’t enough of us to go with them on every endeavor. Then you run into jurisdictional issues when it crosses various city limits and state lines. That’s just two quick issues among many.

I concur we need the watch dog reports for check and balance. Things do need to be seen in perspective however. Asset forfeiture laws have put the IRS into the thick of things.

Locals will know more about the suspect & his habits than IRS agents, who should be made to keep out of the way if an arrest has to be made; local cops can call on the Sheriff & State Police if they really need help, though why a military-style assault force of several dozen always has to be assembled to arrest one or two suspects, I've never understood.

If they aren't locals? If they're heavies or henchmen flying below the radar? Timing is everything so....Lie low and wait for backup...like a certain cop decided to do during a certain school shooting?

Yes, but you do see, I hope, the poetic justice is one trigger-happy cop being shot by another one just like him in one of these recent swat-team raids?

Then let them make sure they only request support when they truly NEED it -- and the return is worth the effort.

Sorry but that won’t work, we are down so many officers we have stripped specialties to the bone and are still staffing patrol at minimums most days. At minimums, call load is already near max, throw in assisting the feds for their stuff and it will kill any chance of responsible response times. I can assure you it’s not an option. It all sounds good, but the reality is grounded in pure numbers.

I submit to you that when you factor in the value of human lives, it would be FAR cheaper to disarm about 90% of federal cops and let locals do the job.
