Trump said most of the 800,000 fed employees affected were dimocrats. Those that are will be whining about everything money related now and wanting to start a "gofundmyarrogantass" fund.

TSA agents, in my opinion, could be supplemented by the airports or airlines raising ticket cost by $10 or so and paying them. Who would notice $10 and they sell 100-200 tickets per plane?

U.S. Coast Guard expenses should come out of the military spending fund.

National Park Services? I can see needing money to feed animals there that are used to human contact but visitors in the middle of winter? Not missed.

Mostly, the jobs affected are considered non-essential jobs and the employees shouldn't expect a bullet proof 100% secure job. No one has that.

If you work for a gov't agency and that job is truly needed then you should be paid on time not retro pay. My son is a young Coast Guardsmen and he is not getting paid because of the bullxxxx games being played by both parties. I am not a fan of government but an employee is an employee and pay them.. If the position isn't needed then eliminate the position.

How about having their fellow employees start a Go Fund Me campaign, or having an "Adopt a Family Program". A big part of the military's problem is that it has become Married With Children. The young single male who lives on post and does not have the distractions and aggravations of dependents is still the preferred recruit, yet a lot of the single guys I have talked to who have served recently have said a big reason for their leaving is the anti-singles bias and the way they are always forced to sacrifice for the marrieds. And having people who enlisted because they needed the family benefits....?

We have whole departments of government -- like the Department of Education -- to run areas that are not the government's business. We have the Department of Veteran's Affairs that could be replaced by issuing insurance cards to veterans and assigning the clerical work to an office in another department. We have the Department of Commerce that basically does nothing but keep statistics and run the weather service -- things that could be easily folded into another department.

To a point you are correct but DOD is funded. The USCG while the 5th branch of the military is not organized like the bigger branches. The USCG is part of DHS. The majority of the Coastguard live in the communities that they serve on the economy. My son's a young E4. He shares a house with two other shipmates. The shutdown is hitting their pockets. They don't have a chow hall to eat in. Communities are hold food drives to feed these people. This is just wrong.
