Should these shirking TSA Agents be fired ? ...

If the agents calling in sick do not have a legitimate
Doctor diagnosed ailment, then they have violated
their terms of employment and have created cause
for their dismissal. Failing that, they should have their
pay docked for those missing work days.
None of these government employees will miss his or
her paycheck. Delayed, yes, missed, no, therefore
their gripe about working for no reward is bogus.

I recall how Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers, although
that was under entirely different circumstances.

    You crack me up.

If your boss told you to report to work but you wouldn't get paid until some unspecified future date I bet you'd be real happy too. Also, by regulation a Federal worker can miss up to three consecutive days without a doctors note (one who knows.) You've got a sniffle call in nobody's saying anything.

Sadly the people not getting paid are mainly homeland security, the Border Patrol, the coast guard ICE and the Airport Security Boys (and girls.) Them's the breaks though. One of the differences between this and past shutdowns is "non essential" people only were effected and the didn't report to work. This time "essential people" are effected and are required to come to work.

And you are right. The Air Traffic Controllers were fired for striking in violation of Federal law and this is surely not that. When you go to work for the Feds you sign a piece of paper in which you agree not to "strike against the public interest."

One more thing. We know an FDA Veterinarian who missed her paycheck last Thursday and is now working on an IOU for the indefinite future, and I've heard word that this might drag on for months, possibly until the next quarter. Miss three or four paychecks and the immediate pain is going to start to get real. ICE is already scrounging around for funds to tie some of their people over if that happens. In that vein, food inspection is being cut back and only the highest risk producers are being inspected right now. How do you like your salad?? Also, farm subsidies aren't being paid and that is going to have a bunch of farmers, especially soy farmers who've lost 60% of their business due to the trade issues with China real happy too.

It's all a charade though in the long run. I went through a bunch of these and its a Kabuki game of chicken from the early 1990s until I retired in which the people pulling the strings aren't missing a darn thing, and nothing's changed. They also no who not to dick with....nobody would ever have the sand to mess with any Fed entitlement and by that I mean everything from Food Stamps, to Social Security, to Military Pensions. Try that and there will be blood in the streets

I support what Trump's doing but from what I've seen of you on, you wouldn't be too happy if it was you feeling the consequences let me tell you; especially if this drags on through several pay periods.

Actually a little "blue flu" might help the process along. here in H - Town a terminal is being shut down so there's some real actual discomfort hitting about now which is supposed to be the point....isn't it?

    Sheesh

These are government employees, Not private sector.
The rules are different and known to prospectibe govt. employees before accepting employment.
If you don't like the terms which include possible shutdown and delayed paycheck, then look elsewhere for a job.
They accept the job because it's cushy, well paid with good pensions, and then complain when their pay is delayed.
The subject incidentally is TSA Agents, not Coast Guard or Border Agents.

Sick time is an earned benefit, private and public sector.

Raise airline ticket cost $10 to pay TSA agents. With hundreds of flights per day per airport that tiny amount will probably be enough. It's as much a benefit for them as ours that travelers get screened.

Ironically there is never enough money no matter who is prez and how much taxes are yet if someone in a foreign country steps on an ant bed the U.S. is quick to send millions of dollars, doctors, supplies and advisors.

Obviously you've never had the "cushy" job but assuming that's true the 'gubmint has agreed to compensate you. Frankly, you couldn't pay me enough money to be a TSA officer and put up with the B.S. they do. Besides its too much time on my feet.

You are correct, they aren't the Border Patrol or Coast Guard, they're just the folks who are supposed to keep terrorists and bombs off airliners. Their "cushy" salary for this averages $38,000.00 a year. Lotta money. One more missed pay period and a TSA officer with a family is going to hurt. Going with my hat in my hand to my creditors (which I've never fortunately had to do) and asking for some indulgence isn't my idea of "fun" either.

If closing a terminal lets the regular schlubs know something is actually happening I think its really quite ok. Remember, we're going on a month now and there haven't even been any negotiations. The Dems intend to break Trump on this so he'd better not lose.

What ever happened to having six months to a year worth of gross wages saved up for an emergency fund?

I have very little sympathy for them.

Talk to any government employee, and you'll find they are superior to the ordinary citizen (and they're paid more, too.) People like that should have a year's extra wages saved, if anyone should.

Those "non-essential" government employees who have a clue about DJ Trump are out looking for a job. The Prez is not joking around. Regards, Clark
