During the William Calley court martial at Fort Benning (remember that?) there was a car with two MPs parked outside the court building at all times. Well, they got bored sitting there and one genius was showing the other Einstein how the disconnector works on the M1911A1. He would shove the muzzle of a LOADED and cocked pistol into his palm while simultaneously pulling the trigger.

As I recall, he did. He was under house arrest on post for a long time.
Calley was, of course guilty. But ironically, his defense attorney, George Lattimer, convicted him. Lattimer, a former judge on the Court of Military Appeals, thought he knew all about the Army, and picked a defense strategy guaranteed to fail. I personally know three of the officers who sat on Calley's court, and they all had strong opinions of Lattimer's approach.Comment

If I remember correctly, Calley worked at a jewelry store on Macon Road in Columbus GA in the late eighties and early nineties, when I was stationed at Ft. Benning.
I recall that i heard he married the owner's daughter.Comment

Hard to believe that My Lai 4 was over 50 years ago! There was a song composed about Lt. Calley that got a great deal of air play then as well.As I recall, he did. He was under house arrest on post for a long time.

I though Polish Roulette was where 5 chambers were loaded. So much for professionals, "police or military only".
Calley was a scapegoat and a fall guy. He was the ONLY officer convicted in the My Lai massacre.Comment

It IS true that Calley was a mass murderer -- but not the only one. The fact that others -- like Ernest Medina (whom I knew) got off doesn't make Calley a scapegoat or fall guy. He was guilty and got a lot less than he deserved.Comment

They could try using blanks, trouble is, they also kill you.
I recall that nitwit from a TV show who thought it would show
what a tough guy he was to put the gun to his head with movie
blanks in the chamber. Oops.
