    Vern... I kinda get what you are saying ... but the minimum wage thing eliminating jobs. Think about this.....

    A local Home Depot opened its doors paying $10 to $ 11 per hour about 13 years ago. When the recession hit the starting wage dropped to $ 9.65 ... and ultimately to $ 8.75 .

    The Home Depot Corporation took adavantage of the economic situation .... and lowering the wage scale didn't produce any more jobs than when they were starting at $ 11 ph

    {Though at this time HD did start bragging record profits}

      This was much better & closer to the mark:

      There are counties there with over 50% adult illiteracy -- people with skills and ambition leave, those without either are left behind. How can such people get out of the situation they're in? Well, there's one way they can get out of it for a little while -- with drugs.

        It's also one of the consequences of lavish and easily obtained welfare benefits.

          From the looks of them on the TV show, I doubt they could add to 11

          you realize there is nothing real about reality tv, right?

            when home depot moved into this area (central VA) the used the same payscale as they did in Northern Va,

            so, everyone that was hired was paid very well,

            as they opened a few more stores, the pay rates were adjusted for this area,

            when I worked for Winn Dixie, we had a pay rate range, for different areas in the Raleigh Div (we in central Va were the most northern area, and had a higher pay scale than most of NC did)

            ditto when I worked for Kroger, at that time each store was union , however , there were several contract areas in the division,
            WV, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville, NC, and Richmond/Tidewater all had different contracts, meaning different rates of pay, starting wages, benefits etc etc, (UFCW local 400 was run by a freaking moron at the time, and when I left the business, that moron was replaced by someone not that much smarter, business wise, but both were great at lining their own pockets)

                Making pot legal is a huge mistake. First is make dealing hardcore drugs immediate execution! Problem solved.

                  Before we put all the Sacklers on the gurneys, how about we get them hooked on their product first, so they get a taste of what their marketing practices helped create.

                    In Singapore, drug dealing carries the death penalty, and they enforce it. Considering the relative populations, we'd have to hang about 800 drug dealers a year to match them.

                    Singapore is a special case. It's only about 16 miles, north to south, and abut 25 miles east to west -- and it's one of the world's greatest harbors and a natural crossroads. The drug cartels planned to take over Singapore in the late '60s. Imagine them having their own nation and in the ideal place for world-wide distribution. Singapore's reaction was a matter of national security -- and it works.
