Never got my head around Force-feeding ...

Surely if someone elects to not eat, that's a personal choice
and should be seen as such. People embarking on hunger
strikes rarely take it to the point of death so why interfere ?
Subduing someone and forcing a tube down their throat is
not my idea of nursing care, so unless it concerns a person
not entirely in command of their faculties, then I say if they
wish to expire from the lack of food, then so be it.

The force-feeding of detainees through nasal tubes at Guantanamo Bay garnered international blowback.

They are criminals in custody. They do not have any right of self-determination. When they are again free, they can do as they please. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

      That's a rather convoluted explanation.

Convoluted? No. Short. Specific. Sincerely. bruce.

I disapprove of leaving them in administrative purgatory indefinitely and force feeding them. Put them on a plane to their original country or before a judge with an attorney representing them.

Seems like cruel and unusual punishment to me.
but I guess the right to choose only concerns abortion.

Not even remotely purgatory as it has no redemptive possibility. Far from cruel, it is actually a remarkably humane was of dealing with a criminal who is self-destructive. To do nothing would likely lead to some sort of judicial penalty for failure to properly care for the criminal. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Having dealt with people who are the responsibility of the state the person no longer has control of their situation. Everything must be provided to them IF it is in their best interest. To do otherwise is criminal in the eyes of the legal system. Force feeding, medicating, restraining is acceptable and done on a daily basis. I have seen people medically reduced to zombies to keep them from hurting self as restraints are not always practical.

Maybe you ought to try indefinite detention absent judicial review for yourself to see if it is not remotely purgatory. ICE runs holding cells, not prisons. And once the state has utterly broken your spirit, who knows, maybe you too will conclude there are indeed fates worse than death.
