That was it; but they weren't composting bodies, but turning them into the cheap food needed to feed the hugely overpopulated planet...where everybody still exercised the "right" of breeding like rats.
There was one feature of the society & gov't of that future time that made LOTS of sense: old people who had nothing to look forward to but increasing pain & disability (like me) could, when they decided they had suffered long enough (there was no coercion), simply check into a hospital & be painlessly put out of their misery, & their body disposed of properly. (Rather than being found rotting weeks or months later after a suicide.) THEY & nobody else decided whether the quality of their life justified prolonging it--they didn't have to prove they were on the very brink of death, as the states allowing physician-assisted suicide require.Comment
