56000 plus grieving American Mothers from Vietnam alone ..... only to see us walk away with our tails between our legs and embrace Red China and Russia as pals.

But at least we still had the nuts to continue the good fight and do everything we could to cripple little Cuba ....even to the point of subsidizing American sugar so we could sell ours for less.

The killer (no pun intended) about Vietnam is that the people running the government knew early on that it was a bad bet, but for political reasons primarily, they couldn't pull the plug. One of the reasons I'm super-glad I don't have cable or a dish is so that I don't stumble across the opinion-heads that get out ahead of the facts and get viewers fired-up over an uninformed line of argument in pursuit of ratings. I miss the old days when this stuff wasn't flogged 24/7 on electronic media to the point that everyone in power becomes a babbling hot mess. But even in the old days, Johnson and later Nixon were trapped by the Vietnam war.

You have only to go to the Truce Village and see what the Red Menace has done to North Korea.

In the 2nd Infantry Division, we used to pull television signals from North Korea. I remember one cartoon program showing the cutest little round-headed kids. They were shooting a popgun at a target like an American soldier (he had a "US" on his helmet.) One little boy couldn't hit the target, and he cried all the way home. That night, he dreamed he was playing with his little friends, and the evil American soldier appeared and stomped on all their toys.

The next morning, he ran all the way to school, grabbed the pop gun and shot five targets in a row. While all the children cheered, the teacher stood with her hand on his head and said, "You see, children? when you hate them enough, you can kill them."

The most popular book in North Korea, other than those written by the Dear Leader is The Diary of Ann Frank. But it has been slightly edited. In the North Korean version, it is the Americans who put Ann Frank into the concentration camp.

What I was referring to Gentlemen was that the likes of McCarthy instilling so much fear that the U.S. government could get the American people to accept our troops being sent to defend a couple of nations we really didn't give a xxxx about ..... to stop the Communist horde from coming here we were told . { would that be ideology Vern? }

Appears neither have proven very succesfull ... Vietnam in particular with the US body count and all . But, some stock holders were pretty happy for 14 years and in the end we caved and became friendly with all the Communist countries in the world {except little Cuba } ... again to the benefit of happy stock holders and business people .

So Clinton... I'm sorry.... I just never accepted the 1950s Korean War or Vietnam as "self defense " on our part
