The little evil guy in The Princess Bride was correct about man's classic blunders.
"The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. Ullman

The U.S. has been there and done that and failed badly.

Not so badly -- South Korea is not a communist country. And that was the whole point of the Truman Doctrine -- that the United States would not allow communism to be imposed by force.

And if you think the Korean War was traumatic for the United States, read the Chinese literature about it. I had the opportunity in Singapore to read translations from Mainland China -- something difficult to access in the United States. I recall one article written by a Chinese general, telling how his division came upon a valley where children had been playing, and had left thousands of snowmen. On closer examination, the "snowmen" turned out to be the frozen corpses of the division that preceded him.

There were also hysterical articles about US Precision Guided Munitions (PGM) with the Chinese blustering about using nuclear weapons if we used PGMs on them. They're scared to death of them.

As much as we don't want to fight China, China does not want to find us.

The USMC has had a NATO tasking to go to Norway for decades. There have been numerous deployments to Norway over many years so this training really is nothing new. The same thing goes for a Korea Tasking. I enjoyed looking at their winter gear. After all these decades of gear development the White Bunny Boots are still doing their job. I never had cold feet while wearing them.

What we have here is a liberal press interpretation of something the US has been doing ever since WWII -- but it's all a plot!!
