Iran flexes it's formidable Naval muscle ...

Just look at those 30 ft heavy Cruisers. Awe inspiring.
The US Navy should get the hell out of there before it
    suffers another Pearl Harbor.

I'd be more worried about the manned missiles and torpedoes.

This is a long article, but it will give one an idea of why those little suckers are a real and present danger to our ships.

Investigation finds officials ignored warnings for years before one of the deadliest crashes in decades.

Actually ... it might be better now

Actually ... it might be better now

Back in my day during Zumwalts Pony Tail Navy of the early 70s an immense percentage of the crew spent it's working day "effed" up on hashish .

Majority of that "hash" came aboard via the Officers liberty boats which were not investigated to the extent of checking enlisted pockets on re boarding the ship .

don't bother asking how I know .... but I know

Sandpebble, you may have been in when I was in. 1972. The mids guys went out on the flight line and got stoned regularly. I used to wonder about aircraft that were serviced and maintained by hippies.

Never thought about the chance that the "good stuff" was brought in by our guys. But hey, they were 25 yr. olds. The first Coor's beer I tasted(it was hard to get so it had to be good) was strapped in the back seat of an A-4. I was a little disappointed. It only takes a a little boat to blow up one of our bigger ships. It's been done.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

They'll suffer from the Vaudeville Syndrome -- once you attack an American ship, what do you do for an encore?

I was "in" until 1973. Sandpecker is saying officers smuggling drugs aboard the ship and supposedly selling them or giving them to the enlisted sailors, was the problem. Hello! That is a absolute bull sheet lie.

... was strapped in the back seat of an A-4
And for dryheat... A-4's were a single seated aircraft and didn't have a back seat. There were a few TA-4 trainers that did (I flew in one), but I never saw one aboard a ship

And I'd like to know when the Iranians ever sank one of "our bigger ships," with one of their little boats.

In 1981 there was a crash on one the carriers, 14 sailors died fighting the fire, it was found that 10 of them had been smoking dope. The Navy cracked down hard on drug use, with a lot of peer pressure and mass punishment. Later that year on another carrier one dopehead was caught, his section punished. Two of them threw him overboard.

Swarming tactics by small boats in the gulf has been a real threat to the Navy for a very long time. The Navy recognizes this threat. I don't know how you counter this threat unless you destroy them in port.

You use proper formations, so any ship that is attacked is supported by other ships and by air protection. Any threatening maneuver brings down all hell.

You also recognize it's a one-time threat -- if they successfully attack a US ship, we hit them so hard they wake up next year.

In fact it was a TA-4"something". F? Long time ago. Ours did do landings on Lady Lex. The USS Cole wasn't sunk but a small boat with explosives and rag heads did a lot of damage. Oh, and the Sullivan was targeted, but the idiots sank in the little boat before they could do any damage.

Something similar to a MOAB which can deployed by a carrier aircraft or a missile. Take out a large area at once. It doesn't have to have great range, just a punch. And becoming crispy critters means they don't get their 72 virgin ewes.
