Regarding naval officers and dope, my division officer/navigator in 1973-74 aboard a forward deployed ship; homeported out of Japan smuggled dope aboard ship and regularly smoked it with two of my subordinates while on liberty. Talk about a f'ed up chain of command. This jerkoff was a Naval Academy alumnus and ultimatedly got promoted to Captain too. As I recall, his father was a retired Admiral.

Service academy graduates are no better educated than their ROTC counterparts but they join one heck of an alumni network.
If the Iranians had any brains they'd do like the Viet Cong/NVA did-get our troops hooked on dope. And they'd engage in constant harassing/probing attacks, keep our forces on edge, sleep deprived-like Charley did in Vietnam.

The Iranians are fanatics. I once did a study of the Iran-Iraq war. Iran used their greater population in human wave attacks. There were whole brigades committed to suicide attacks -- much like Japanese Banzai charges.
