Brexit from the Northern Ireland Perspective

    Interesting viewing

The future of the Irish border has been a contentious issue during Britain’s Brexit negotiations. We went to Northern Ireland, where residents worry that the free flow of goods and people could end once the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.

Starts out with a good Brexit joke.

I'm surprised they took time out from their Guinness drinking to speak.

No. The Troubles were about Civil Rights -- things like only one vote per registered head of household (so you and your wife would have to split a vote) EXCEPT that people who paid property tax got an additional vote for each 10 pounds they paid -- up to 6. In EVERY district where they owned property. So the typical renter had to split a vote with his wife, while the landlord got extra votes. There were other little things like internment without trial, an official policy of not hiring Catholics and so on.

The Good Friday Accords (1998) implemented all the reforms the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association had called for thirty years before.
