I do not know how prisons work, but I would wonder if a former guard doing time has a harder than average time of it.

Back in 1982 it was my distasteful task of being one of the two transporting Deputies who had to take a former correction officer from our jail to state prison. He was found guilty of sexual relations with a juvy, she set him up for "favors" and he fell for it. Two other officers on the same watch were allowed to resign for not reporting the incident. They could have been charged for a crime but allowed to get out of town. It was one task that I was tasked to do, not volunteer for. The look on his face as we escorted him into the old prison and taken in tow by trustees was one of pure shock.

Cops do, guards probably do too - especially nasty guards.

Former cops/co are put in segregation for their own safety.
