The Armour of Rommel's Africa Corps ...

Trust the Italians to bring deck chairs, no doubt along with their girl friends.
They were lovers, not warriors - that's for sure.
The Germans on the other hand ...

Mostly Panzer III's and short-barreled IV's, with Flak 8.8cm guns to do most of the killing of British armor. The Germans showed great skill in luring enemy tanks onto their anti-tank guns.

I lived in Alexandria, Egypt in '54 to '56, and got out to the Western Desert every chance I got. The desert was littered with destroyed or crippled vehicles and other equipment (and land mines -- hundreds of thousands of them.) I crawled inside every armored vehicle either side had -- I remember being surprised they were all painted white inside. All along the coastal road there were nice buildings -- barracks, mess halls, admin buildings, and so on -- most of them with indoor plumbing. You could tell who build them by looking at the faces painted (very artistically) in the urinals and toilet bowls -- Churchill if the Axis built the building, Hitler and Mussolini if the British built it.

We found the remains of a British pilot in the Qattara Depression and boxed him up and delivered him to the British Consulate -- and got a nice thankyou from his family later.

I also visited Balboa's monument. General Balboa was ordered to Ethiopia by Mussolini, and a bomb was put aboard his aircraft. The plan was for him to vanish over the Mediterranean, but he picked up a tail wind and was over land when it went off.
