    New ammo law

On July1st the new law requiring a background check to buy ammo is supposed to go into effect here in California. The way I read it we pay $19 for the initial check to get into the system and then $1 every time for a "instant check" when you buy ammo. Everyone is predicting a boondoggle. If they can do an "instant check" that should eliminate the 10 day wait for a firearm purchase by a person who is already in the system. Anyone from California with a different take?

The same morons who run the DMV will be running this-- so it will be a disaster. But the commie elite won't care. And it will have ZERO effect on crime.

California is located in a beautiful part of the world. The tragedy is that the state is controlled by deluded dems. The productive people and companies have been fleeing to other states for some years.

We have relatives in California. It is a nice place to only visit.

              From the second link:
Q: So, the CA DOJ will keep records of what ammo I buy, and how much?
A: Yep. But, so does your grocery store every time you input your "customer loyalty number." They keep track of what you buy, how much, and when. The only difference is, they send you coupons, DOJ won't be sending you coupons for the ammo you like to buy (sorry, trying to make light of a grim situation).
He has a point. Privacy went out the window, in many cases voluntarily, with the rise of big and cheap data. Computerized license plate readers issue speeding tickets in the UK, and track the coming and going of people in towns in the USA. All in the name of providing more efficient services (including law enforcement) at lower costs. Serious shooters in California who value their privacy should learn to reload, and to turn off the GPS connection on their smart phone.

Thank God I roll my own ammo, with the exception of .22.

Amazing all the places you can buy .22 when you're on a road trip.

                    Things California does not have:

                    Cyclones
                    Floods
                    Hurricanes
                    Tornadoes
                    Freezing temperatures
                    Hailstorms
                    Snow (except in the mountains)

What we do have are great summers
                    mild winters
Snow in the mountains (for skiing)
                    Huge Redwoods and magnificent scenery
And our last earthquake was 30 years ago

If you have your wits about you it's easy
to defeat the libs. You know what they're
going to do, so prepare before they do it.
                    And Nevada isn't far.

I not only reload, I have developed a .22 Hornet load that duplicates the .22 LR.

and if you really get hungry for .22s, you can get one of these http://22lrreloader.com/design-details/

I looked into that -- try using that mould that comes with the kit. Let me know when your fingers heal.

As I read the summary of the law in Dan Shapiro's link, there is no exemption for nonresident military personnel stationed in California. Did I miss something?

Do PX's in California sell ammunition? Generally organizations on military installations follow Federal law and regulations, not State law and regulations. An example is that Class VI's in dry counties sell alcohol.
