    Dick's Sporting Goods losing money

Surprise, surprise. They don't care though since they are just a puppet for the left wing.

Dick’s Sporting Goods’ bottom line took a very big hit after halting the sale of assault-style weapons in response to the Parkland school massacre

"The dick's" is the country's largest sporting goods retailer? Really? You couldn't prove that around here. Never has been much - just a few shabby, smallish stores. They must have a big presence in some other parts of the country. I'd have thought Cabela's/Bass Pro would be much bigger.

That's left-wing economics. You note some of our resident National Socialists fervently believe there's no need to make a profit -- just take money out of the Magical Money Pot in the back room.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I think even WalMart sells more guns and other sporting goods.

If you read the linked article you would see that their share price is up.

Shares have climbed 14 percent in the 13 months since Parkland. Shares rose slightly Friday.
Maybe their shares would have gone up 21% if they were still selling guns. We don't know and can't say. But the shares certainly have not cratered. Once again your economic analysis is overly-simplistic in a 1980's style trickle-down way.

Which is why I shop at WalMart.

WalMart is a good neighbor -- in February of '08 a tornado ripped through the County Seat. We were without electricity, telephone, you name it. Before dawn, a WalMart semi came through the partially blocked roads with a huge generator. They powered up WalMart and Murphy's Mart gas station (the only source of gas for the next week.) They threw out everything in the freezers and restocked. They brought in everything we needed -- generators, chain saws, flashlights -- you name it. And they didn't raise prices one cent.

Many people couldn't cook without electricity. The local banks have barbecues they loan to civic organizations. The banks broke out the barbecue pits and WalMart DONATED food and charcoal.

            They're damned good neighbors.

              sporting goods,

              guns are a small portion,

              dicks sells
              shoes,
clothing (underarmor marketing and sales deals ended, so that supposedly hurt them)
              golf
              camping
              team sports stuff
              fishing
              and firearms

their firearms sales, at least in this area, were ok, when they sold handguns, most stores if not all no longer sell them here,

so basically, the most basic of shooting/hunting stuff, ammo, and the generic gun list of guns available,

Dick's sells tennis shoes/sneakers. Everything else they sell can be bought cheaper at Walmart. Good riddance.

Darts. Walmart sells warped and short lived chink $hit whereas Dicks low end is simply cheap Chinese crap. There is a slight difference in qualty sometimes.
When throwing money away its better to get as many throws as you can.

So Dick’s had a losing quarter but it may or may not have anything to do with gun sales per se. I doubt their gun sales would have been $150 mil in the same period. My experience at Dicks was that their prices were high and their sales people didn’t know diddly squat about the guns they were selling.

Bass Pro was better, but Cabelas had mismatched Milsurps they were trying to sell at collector grade prices. Don’t know about their revamped stores.

I suppose part of their $ lose was due to the liquidation of the AR15's they had in stock. Not only did they not retail these guns at a profit they probably wholesaled them perhaps at a lose for a quick sale to make their political statement. The thing to have done (in a real gun shop) would be to just sell existing stock at normal retail and not replace it.

$150 mil does seem to be too high a figure but they have an awful lot of stores. Where I live they are like Starbucks--every sizeable town has one or more.

Wasn't there a news release that Dick's destroyed all of their AR15s? Straight loss.

I haven't shopped in Dick's since they started supporting anti-2d Amendment practices.

They make their money on fitness clothing for people who go to health clubs, and youth sporting equipment. Maybe in some locations they compete with Cabelas.

I shopped at Dicks once in my life. Dropped in to get a Brick of Long Rifle for my son's Christmas present. Pulled out credit card and the Bastard wanted ID to verify my age, I was 79 at the time. I started to tell him to kiss my @@@ but wife rolled her eyes and gave me the "LOOK" and I just left it on the counter and walked out.. That place is for the high class dorks who has to wear special jersey with someones name on the back who they have never met. Screw'em ..
