I was getting 17 or so, at first, been a while since I checked,

guy that used to work for me bought a new model, and said it was pass everything except a gas station,,

all pickups, 4x or not, have gotten too damn big,

the new Tacoma's are basically the same size as my first year\first gen Tundra, which was considered a midsized , like the dakota, when new

FWIW, my T100, with 3.4ltr V6 got about a mile per gallon better avg than my Tundra did when new

There was a news report about the thief of catalytic converters. The Toyota Tundras were the number one victim. No surprise; you could sit in a lawn chair while removing it. My buddy bought one and I had a hard time climbing into it..and i'm tall. Just last month I surprised myself by buying a Ram Big Horn. Too much truck for me(a little). But what I don't like is the weird high profile feel of it(18" tires). I'm afraid if I dodged a dog in the road I might roll it. OK; it is used and at 80K. I'll look into shocks ect. I want to like this truck. But my baby was my 2006 Silverado Quad Cab with the 4.8 V8. I loved that truck. I could get sentimental about that truck.

By the way, I have fired an Uzi(spray and pray), a M60,totally cool. Actually have fired two of them. A SAW in .308 I just remembered it was way better than an Uzi. Did you guys take note of the tracers that looked like they might have been accurate? Some of those bursts looked kind of like writing your name in snow, if your from snow country.

Actually only about 77K. It's primary uses are off-road, especially as a firewood truck. It also gets some winter use which is technically "off-roading" when there is enough snow between the truck and the pavement! Both the Dodge and Ford have been used to get up into the WY high country for some backpacking trips. I've also made that drive in cars and minivans, but the extra ground clearance is nice to have as some of those mountain dirt roads get rutted pretty good. My attitude is that I put regular commuting miles on cars and save the 4WD drivelines for when they're needed. Rust is an ongoing challenge. The Dakota is still in decent shape but has had its break lines replaced once already, and I had the oil pan painted with epoxy paint to give it some improved rust resistance, but some bubbling is happening again. Steel oil pans that cannot be serviced without lifting the motor or dropping the front differential annoy me. Had the same problem with the Ford.

I'm a flusher for sure, but this was road salt rust that got the lines from the outside. Seized pistons are a PITA so I do flush. Interestingly enough, I know a GM service manager who says they don't bother at his dealership. He's not a bad guy otherwise so even though I don't agree with him, it's not like I would never take a car to his shop for stuff that I won't do.

On that Dakota, my son who had just got his DL and I were taking a trip to the high country, and came into Chadron NE, just after 12 noon on a Saturday. We needed gas and the small station in the middle of town was a bit congested and he was having trouble manuvering to a pump, so I jumped behind the wheel. The very first time I put my foot to the brake it went all the way to the floor. The very first time! All the parts stores being closed we had to sit tight until Monday AM at Fort Robinson State Park down the highway. Beautiful park that I've visited a number of times, but never for the horseback riding. (On horseback it might be one of the best places in the west.) A rear brake line had blown, and the whole stretch was so rusted there was no place to pinch it off. So it was a case of minimal braking and a lot of advanced planning between the park and Chadron. Got it fixed on Monday AM by a mechanic at a tire store (former Gulf War artilleryman) and we were on our way. He said they see a lot of deer hunters come out of the midwest in the fall with rusty trucks, LOL.
