I'm so old I can remember when it wasn't considered heroic to get a sexually-transmitted disease, nor especially generous to pass it on to someone else.

It would be considered selfish if you did not share it with others.
And of course, "Misery loves Company"

They don't qualify as women in my book.
Yes, in my Army days those who contracted STDs were not formally punished, but they received no sympathy or understanding from their peers. Nor did they expect any.

In my Army days it was called A self-inflicted wound as was sunburn,
and either could get you punishment if it caused you to be unfit for duty.

That was a long time ago. The regulations prevented revealing the name of anyone with an STD. I got a sort of waiver when I was Deputy Operations Officer for the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea -- we were allowed to identify the UNIT. Unit commanders were held responsible. The commanders leaned hard on the NCOs, and the STD rate dropped -- but I understand that was changed after I left. Not Politically Correct.

I heard of a soldier who was fighting in Viet Nam. He had enough and wanted to come home. He shot his foot in order to be removed from the front line. He was then court-martialled for destroying "government property".

The charge would be "attempting to avoid service as an enlisted man."

Co-worker jumped in Operation Junction City (?). Had an AK round come up through his boot and was court-martialed for 'self inflicted wound to avoid combat' or some such charge. Doctor saved his foot and his tail.

"Malingering" was the offense in my day, didn't matter if was in combat or garrison.

I spent some time protecting the Ben Sahn Leprosarium (the VC used to raid it for the drugs.) I had talks with the priest who ran the place -- and who was a world authority on leprosy. He told me at that time there were only two cases where the origin of leprosy could be traced -- both were American sailors who were tattooed in Hong Kong, and the leprosy appeared on the lines of the tattoo. Cured me from wanting tattoos!

I remember this idiot(I'm posting idiots a lot) who was in my mechanical drafting class. He used the pointy end of the compass(drafting tool) to poke holes in his arm and then put ink in them to make a Very crude tattoo. I got transferred out mid year and at that time the nitwit had blue lines running up his arm. I wonder whatever happened to him.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.
