Pat's admonishment says: argue points not personalities. But arguing isn't restricted or frowned upon. As the old corporate mantra goes; if everyone is in agreement, then someone isn't thinking. It goes something like that.If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment

Yes, but the fact that people are arguing doesn't mean they are making sense, or are worth listening to. Sophistry is no substitute for wisdom.Comment

I can certainly understand your position. When every statement or point of view is met with, "yeah but...." But, in my opinion it keeps it interesting. None of us are creating national stance. I'd like to believe that somewhere someone in power is saying, "those guys on Culver's make a lot of sense, let's implement some of that", but I kind of doubt the reality of that. Or, "there's only three guys on that forum that make any sense". "Let's see if we can get their input on national policy". Wither the thought. I have no idea how to get the things done that I want to see done. Not even Trump is the messiah to me. To paraphrase Togor, talk is cheap. But what can we do? Does writing your congressman actually accomplish anything? So in the meantime we chat with each other here on Culver's.If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment

What gets a reply from me is when someone tries to argue a thing from some principle, but then if you take that principle and apply it somewhere else, then no, the result is bad! So I call BS a lot on stuff like that. For example, executive power. In Obama's hands, dictatorship! But in Trump's hands, it's not? Power is power. Just ask the Venezuelans who thought they were out from under it when Chavez died, or the Cubans when Fidel croaked. To examine circumstances consistently from bedrock principles, even when (especially when!) one may not like the result, is a responsible and conservative thing to do. That's going to stay true whether Red, Vernon, Allen, Boggs etc. like it or not.Last edited by togor; 04-24-2019, 05:54.Comment

Wither DT, Sid and Boggs in that line of reasoning? Trying to understand the principle here, and how it applies to some but not others.Comment

They're not really opinions -- they're knee-jerk reactions. If you mention you're out of toothpaste, they'll automatically reply, "Trump leaves the cap off!"Comment
