Just my opinion but the squabbles over what "others" do in and with politics is dumb so why argue? We all have opinions on something that go counter to others such as baseball, food, drink or weather. When we civilly discuss difference and voicing an opinion of self that is one thing, to critique other's is not a good idea. I did a group for many years with my ex-con's with one unbreakable rule. Each person had the right to talk about self, leave the other person alone! In prison all one had was self respect, break that rule and there would be hell to pay. My guy's had a penchant for violence and I had no wish for them to demonstrate their ability during group.
IMHO it is one thing to voice an opinion it is another to try and pound on each other, as we are all guilty of that at one time or another. I would rather discuss the "right" way to prepare a steak as to discuss the "right" way to grill a politician.

That's as succinct a description of politics as a tribal activity as anyone can write. But as you say it does not universally apply here.

Some people dislike encountering contrary views. Others feel strengthened by it.

Psychiatric hospitals/jails don't have the net, apparently he/she/it resurfaces for more lubricating grease. This person is one sick individual and I have witnessed a lot. People with advanced STD act like M45 does...pity to be this miserable and focus on perversion.
