    Disheartening

Just spoke with a friend who ran for the State House as an Independent. He has decided not to try again. Without going into the gory details he is so disgusted by the attack against him after the election that he is not willing to go through it.

As a state LEO he couldn't file until 1 September, the day after he retired. Still he got 44% of the vote. An independent group supporting him was investigated for eight months and spent $100K defending themselves. Found not guilty of any election law misconduct but still fined $9,000. He has been offered the same deal but won't take it. A consultant friend told him in mid-October the Dems were panicking he was polling so well.

Two days after the election his opponent hosted a fundraiser for the AG elect at her house, organized by a left wing advocacy group. Later that week the leader of that group filed the misconduct complaints which resulted in the drawn out state election hearings against him and the supporting group.

Nothing to see here. Just garden variety democrats using the laws and courts to harass anyone brave enough to call them what they are. Liars, thieves, scoundrels of the first order.

The gory details might be necessary to know if this guy got a raw deal or made a bunch of sloppy first-timer mistakes. Anyways, politics are not for the faint-hearted.
