Asia is a powerhouse. The N Koreans might fit in just fine. Have you seen the parades and synchronized audiences? That's what they do well. Asians like that kind of stuff. In the end everyone will have nuclear but then maybe it won't be cool anymore. Well except for Iranians. But they are actually kind of cool too. Kind of like being Gay. It's not that big a deal anymore. We never get what we want.
So What Do We Have To Show For It?

The ROK soldier is one tough cookie not to be messed with. When S. Korea deployed to Nam the local VC decided to take them on...big mistake. The Koreans took it personal and counter punched in a way that the U.S. would not do. From that point on the Koreans were left alone! S. Korea is like Israel, they value their freedom and will die to defend it. This is a lesson that unfortunately America needs to relearn as too many of our "citizens" live too comfortably and have forgotten what freedom really is. 911 was a possible wake up call, unfortunately America hit the snooze button again.

Of your choices,
The first amounts to exchanging ink scratches on a piece of paper for the tangible benefit of removing troops, not excluding the second possibility later. So let's hope that doesn't happen. Vietnam was eventually unified, don't forget, and a comparatively open society like the ROK could easily be undermined, its vitality sapped over time, by it's totalitarian neighbors to the north.
We know what the DPRK wants. We know what the US says it wants. It's fair to say that under Trump, the DPRK is making progress. You may not like the idea or not care but it's nonetheless fair to say.
China for it's part would learn to live with a reduced US military presence in the Far East.Last edited by togor; 07-03-2019, 02:47.Comment

When I was in Korea, when you drove up the to DMZ, you could see firing slits in all the hills. The hills had been hollowed out and converted into battalion strong points. The entrances were already set for demolition -- once the battalion entered, they would blast the entrance. If the good guys won, they would be dug out. Otherwise they would die in their battle positions. The ROK soldier is one tough cookie not to be messed with. When S. Korea deployed to Nam the local VC decided to take them on...big mistake.
