Not socialism, Lyman. You misstate the point because you don't like where it leads.

Let me give you an example. When Vernon talks about things paid for with taxpayer money, he refers to his money. When he talks about his defense contractor 401(k) or Social Security, again, his money. Well wait a minute....who buys from the defense contractor? Who pays his military pension or his health care? See, he ignores the connected-ness of it all, and thinks only in terms of #1.

Allen complains about money spent on schools. Did he mind it when his kids were young or did he want good schools then? (As a practical matter, young people are a better investment of taxpayer money than old people, but let's save that topic for another day.)

Maybe it's a regional thing, this idea that one need only care about "me and mine", and that any other perspective is rampant socialism. I think folks who think that way are full of sh*t.

If young people are a better investment than old people why have Liberals declared war on the unborn ?

Not contradictory at all. Maximizing resources available to rear those offspring that one has is consistent with both A) not having more offspring and B) not diverting resources to other members from whom one cannot expect to recoup the investment.

People in the black churches do an eloquent job of explaining the tension between reproductive freedom as a secular right in the temporal world and the church teachings about the sanctity of life. But we could ask the same sort of loaded question about pro-lifers who turn a blind eye to children neglected or abused in government camps, couldn't we? Life is complicated sometimes.

On the humorous side, I thought this was funny

WASHINGTON, DC—After decades of waiting, the much-anticipated mass Baby Boomer die-off should finally commence within the next five to ten years, Census Bureau officials said Monday.

Once they're born pour money into their development. If they never "arrive" it's moot.

Togor posted within seconds of me. Ohh, I like that kind of humor. All true. When I go to the pharmacy or grocery store now all the bookstands have those 1/4" thick chronicals about the Beatles, John Wayne, Jesus, you name it. The whole timeline is interesting. Hippies, Pet Rocks, Hare Krishna, Cocaine, Club Med(more cocaine), housing booms, McMansions, housing crashes, heathy eating, exercise, skyrocketing medical costs. It's all about us. I rarely use icons.

            never assume that about me,

and give me an example of socialism that is working,

(BTW, what Vern, Allen or you have as far as $$ in the bank, and where it comes from is not my concern, us Southerners were raised to not worry about other peoples money, that's private)

I was thinking Sweden, but they have issues,
