If this isn't racist nothing is

Looks like a black AOC to me.

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., announced that as president she would invest $100 billion of federal money into housing assistance for black families as part of an effort to close the racial wealth gap in the United States.

Ahhh, Kamala? Let them get their homes the same way I did -- by working, scrimping and saving. By living up to my marriage vows and providing for my children.

I'm afraid you would be speaking Greek to this particular bunch as they probably could not even comprehend such thoughts.

I'm just impressed Allen can find racism in something.

If one cannot afford closing costs or other items, pray tell how one can afford a mortgage? Wasn't something similar tried in the not to recent past and deemed a financial failure?

I'll agree with ya somewhat on this one Sam .

Some time back at the beginning of one memorable recession a program was initiated by GW Bush called the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 The First Time Home Buyers received a tax credit of up to $7500 for getting off their ass and helping the plumeting economy by buying a house..... even though foreclosures were reaching epic proportions .

A year later Obama instigated a similar program to include 2nd time home buyers ... hey funny thing... I took advantage of that as I was buying my second home at that time.

But here is where I agree with Sam.... both those programs... failed or otherwise ... were open to everybody .... not just Blacks .

On the other hand.... if ya can't afford closing costs how do ya cover the rent thats far outpacing normal inflation ?

Brought about a virtual collapse of the market. Even Bill Clinton admitted, "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity by definition."

A new report says that one reason has to do with white people's perceptions that they're losing financial dominance as people of color are making gains.

Article that discusses the resentment that some whites feel towards government programs that help minorities, even if those same programs lift many more whites out of poverty at the same time. Echos of Lyndon Johnson's quote about the "lowest white man".

Harris's proposal is a pander to be sure, but the observation that home ownership has been a path to wealth formation in which minorities have been impeded is on the money (pun intended).

Can you just imagine if the tables were turned and this program was for whites ONLY? Harris and Booker would be the first ones to squawk.

It was called "The Affordable Housing Act", forced by Clinton; Fannie May and Freddie Mac had to approve borrowers that did not have the means to pay a mortgage. Lead to their failure.

Housing is affordable or it isn't is the reality. I dealt with people who were in some type of subsidized housing with mandatory inspections of the home. Low income are that for a reason, generally low education levels and no desire to increase their education, drug use [rampant] and many other lesser reasons. Paying people not to work and being giving an ability to live at a lower lever is all right with them. Sleep all day and get into mischief at night was the general rule.
To get government benefits THEIR MUST be a demand to do better for self and hence for society in general. Mandatory and random drug testing with corrections if needed, mandatory training for a job of some sort, 40 hours per week work schedule in lieu of training. In short stop the freebies and mandate work for housing and other needs. One is either a tax payer or a tax user!
40 years ago a cohort of mine was laid off at the local police department due to decreased funding. His Chief removed him to the reserve force so that he could keep his badge and uniform. My friend had been a K9 in the military and had trained his German Shepard as such. He contacted all of the downtown business that for a weekly fee he and the dog would do a walking patrol in the business district. For some odd reason crime in his AO dropped, not one B&E or vandalism. Other business saw this and hired him as well, so much he could not do it all! What I am trying to get at is that rather then whine about his situation he took charge of it to feed his family at something he was trained to do. People with no direction or incentive have to be given such for the sake of society. This LBJ stuff is a gigantic mistake and must be altered...No work no nothing!

For about 60 years we have pursued a policy of NOT encouraging self-sufficiency. We have allowed people to use welfare and government handouts as an economic strategy. When I look at this mess, I am reminded of what Pogo Possum said, "We have net the enemy and he is us."
