Yes, we have a lot to thank him for. His "Reform Party" was pretty much a one man band. And for all his reputation as an astute businessman, much of his populism had an incredible naïve and ignorant quality. His statement-"We could solve the deficit without breaking a sweat !" How-the Bureau of Printing and Engraving ?

His solution to "gun control" was house to house searches. When told this was unconstitutional, he said, "We can CHANGE the Constitution."

"IGNORE it" is what he meant.

Funny, I read he made a contribution to Trump before he died.

I read that too. Perhaps he wanted to make amends.

As you recall from the election days Perot told the public what they wanted to hear. Some were doable good ideas, some may have been far fetched but most of his ideology related directly to good common sense conservative ways. Some say this is what gave Trump some of his ideas. The difference with Perot was he didn't intend or want to follow through with them where Trump did and does.

He referred to NAFTA as "that big sucking sound of jobs going South (to Mexico) but there was also a big sucking sound of Republican voters switching over to him. As you may recall he got very strong in the polls so he dropped out then re-entered later when things cooled off a bit. He wanted to draw enough GOP votes to put Clinton in office but not enough to put HIMSELF in office.

Clinton became president with 43% of the vote because of him. It was said that he really didn't want the presidency just didn't want Bush Sr. to get it. His grudge against Bush went back to the time Bush was head of the CIA and they butted heads over the Vietnam MIA issue.

Not surprising. Trump ran for the Reform Party Presidential nomination in 2000, the last year the Reform Party got matching funds. Pat Buchannan, David Duke and Leonora Fulani and Jesse Ventura were also contenders that year. Buchannan got the Reform Party nod that time. Trump withdrew saying he didn't want to be associated with a nominating process that he said included a Klansman (Duke,) a neo NAZI (Buchannan,) and a Communist (Fulani.) I figure he was a bit hard on Buchannan . I suspect if Perot had a choice he would have preferred Trump over the others for a variety of reasons.
