Russian "interference," Why are we talking about it?

Why we are still talking about the Russians. the facts are:

    1. The Russian interference did not change a single vote in the 2016 election.
    2. There is no evidence that the interference was aided by a single American.

Russia today is a struggling third rate country with an GNP that is smaller than South Korea, or Italy. Their military is largely a paper tiger. They have some advanced fighters but actually only a very few operational (maybe as few as 20) fifth generation or stealthy fighters. The U.S. has built about 190 F-22's and are in the process of building hundreds of F-35's.

The only reason they are doing as well economically as they are is because they have largely privatized their industry. Socialism doesn't work well anywhere.

Red, one has to have a program to see what the demoncrats are upset about this week. Next week it will probably be about something else to moan about.

Red because the media doesn't want to talk about anything real going on like why we are still in Afghanistan and keep loosing people there or building a case for immigration reform that really works or why the cost of my health care keeps going up etc.

Why are we in Afghanistan? Great question! How about this for an answer? It's G.W. Bush's fault. He introduced the No Child Left Behind policy that had some merit, but the policy was twisted and turned into something it was never meant to be by radical left extremists that run the schools. I'd bet that G.W. would not have visualized that the policy would end the teaching of things like History, Civics, and economics. Now, nobody that has graduated from high school in the past 16 years has ever heard of Afghanistan, they have never heard about the Russians losing a war there, they have never heard of the Six Day War, the Alamo, or Gettysburg.

And the real reason we are still there is because today's "Military-Industrial Complex" wants it. Of course that outfit has changed a lot since Ike was President and now thay are all left wing radical Democrats, from Bloomberg to Zuckerberg...

I'd say M1A's version is more accurate, but anyways, we went into Afghanistan to route Al Qaeda after they attacked us. The Taliban was their benefactor so they got it too. Since then it's been tough since the Pakis have a long term interest in keeping Afghanistan in a perpetual state of conflict, or failing that, as a client state. Their big fear is that if Afghanistan becomes peaceful, then it will be the bigger boys on the block (India and/or China) who reap the benefits of their considerable mineral wealth for example. Afghanistan as it is also is a nice project to keep their own locals in the border region otherwise diverted from really taking on the government and army, for which Kashmir and the conflict with India is still the main conflict of interest. Why we are still there given all of this is a good question. I suppose some of it is the Sunk Cost Fallacy of nearly 2 decades of military investment, plus the Talibs are easy to hate, given their brutal style of rule. Too bad we can't figure out a way to come to an understanding with the Persians, who despite their current bad government, are innately the most civilized people in that region by far.

Trump going to Tehran would be something I'd like to see. Of course Netanyahu and the Saudi royal family would flip their lids, but heck if he can talk to Kim, why not the ayatollah? It's not like the Iranians have called us worse stuff than the North Koreans.
