    "Reporting suspicious activity" ...

That was a liberal's suggestion - heard this am on the radio.
It worked for the Nazis so why not here.
That would be great if only future terrorists were caught in the net.
But they wouldn't be would they. Instead we'd have neighbors reporting
neighbors digging in their gardens. Could be burying someone.
If I had neighbors close enough they'd probably report me shooting
my air rifle off the deck. Could be shooting someone.
(Quit shooting some time back - missed it - felt the need to shoot
something so bought a Ruger 22).

Know how you feel, children's service questioned my wife and I because our son was cutting the grass. She felt that it was too dangerous for a child to do this to earn his allowance. Told her I did the same thing and got a lecture on how bad my parents were to me as a child! Fresh out of college, sleeping with a man not her husband and lecturing us on how to raise our children. Ran into the same type of idiots when I worked at the clinic, nothing changes just gets worse.

There is a special form of stupidity that includes the arrogant belief that you're actually smarter than other people.

So is it the principle of reporting suspicious activity that rubs people the wrong way, or the object? If for example, they looked middle-eastern. Then it's the right thing to do? Or black? But not if they're pale skinned? Apologies if this is an easy question.

Massacre #2 might have been avoided if people who knew the shooter was obsessed with killing people had not just spoken but spoken loudly.

the problem I see is where it the line,

memaw doing what she did was the right thing,

what if your neighbor sees you carrying a hunting rifle or shotgun from your car to your house and decides to call because they heard thru the neighborhood grapevine or read and inferred on this forum that you hated hillbillies,, and they were from Georgia?

that's the issue, where it that line in the sand, and who will do the investigation?

remember, most stories of police raiding an house are in the early AM,

so if your door gets kicked in at 4AM, you are sleeping, and the events unfold (you go peacefully, you shoot a cop, or cop shoots you because you think they are an intruder,, and you did not hear them yell police from outside 4 rooms away,,,)

                        etc etc etc

Hi Lyman, yes some grey area as you describe. Had to go back and read post #1. As near as I can tell, DT is uncomfortable about being the object of profiling. Lots of blacks and Muslims know how he feels. Either that or he's afraid someone will SWAT him.

In real life reporting suspicious activity would be over with in a day or two. Everybody wants to get into the act or be a hero so everything they see someone else do "could" be something suspicious. Authorities would be overwhelmed with comments from everyone.

Back in the day when my brother was a cop people would sometimes come running up to the car in a frantic. Meaning well they wanted to tell him of something they thought was of great importance. Most all of these "end of the world" phenomena's turned out to be nothing but still needed to be investigated.

A typical example was a small group of people who were all excited over seeing an alien space craft hovering just above the buildings in the middle of town. It turned out to be the water tower with the flashing warning lights on top. What made it look suspicious was the dense fog hiding the shape of the tower but exaggerating the flashing of the lights.
