    Stopping another killer

Since people want to "feel" safe how about stopping this daily killer DUI! How do we stop this, it is quite simple. Want to buy alcohol one must register with the BATFE to purchase an endorsement to buy alcohol. For a background check one can purchase alcohol for 5 years before renewal of your permit. Want to buy alcohol, swipe your card. To buy gasoline you must swipe your drivers license before the pump will operate. Have a DUI, this info is entered into a national data base and prevents a DUI conviction from buying gas. No DL, no gas. Want to register your car, swipe your DL otherwise no sale.
If you do not have anything to hide and trust the government to do the right thing why not?

I agree. alcohol and automobiles kill more young people every day than firearms do.

Yes, sarcasm, but a question. Do you favor the taking of steps in society to reduce the incidence of DUI or do you think we just live with it?

I imagine, from what I see on the roads that cell phone/texting usage kills more people than guns too and through the GPS system cell phones could be made to not function while the car is moving.

Also, it's not a constitutional right to own and use a cell phone.

Banning cell phone usage though won't give the liberals any edge on complete control/police power over the people like banning guns.

Sooner the better based on his threats of violence in the past.

One of the issues with firearm incidents is that they are always spectacular and newsworthy and hence (correctly) get a lot of attention from the authorities. Other deadly incidents such as traffic deaths are far worse in their effect but are treated as ordinary and not worthy of a a massive immediate response. We have pretty much come to accept that the use of automobiles carries the price of thousands of random deaths a year. That's not rational. Consider also that the number of deaths in North America by terrorists is almost nil and yet the resources applied to dealing with the problem, if re-directed to traffic safety and medical research would probably save tens of thousands of lives per year. It's all governed by emotion and politics and not rational analytic thought.

The thing is, autos do become safer with more airbags, repositioned fuel tanks, etc., and nobody objects to PSAs against OWI, or stiffer penalties for operating while hammered. But in this country at least, PSAs for improved gun safety, unless lukewarm ones sponsored by the NRA, are interpreted as a communist plot.

For one thing records need to be opened. Kids criminal records are sealed @ age 18 to give them a 2nd chance. This is stupid, they often continue to act the same so put the record forth. Same for mental illness, if a person has been hospitalized or their psychiatrist feels the person is a danger to self/others should they be able to own a firearm? Civil libertarian's will scream out "NO" as will mental health professionals. If a person has an anger issue should they have the ability to use a firearm or a vehicle?
Should an adjugated person be able to buy alcohol or buy gas if a DUI conviction? Should the news media have such an open field to spread disinformation, why not make it illegal to spread lies. Tell the truth or go to jail is simple enough, only a National Socialist would disagree. I am tired of the lies from the left pushing their agenda and it has to stop! If not, "Papers Please!" is getting closer and closer. This is something I do not want and fear greatly.

Yes it is along with other things.

Our country has way too much diversity, it has become socialist and PC to the point our laws aren't working because "someone" is going to be offended even if that offended person doesn't even belong in the U.S.

Nothing will stop an assailant from committing a crime and none or few of them buy guns or buy them legally. Banning sales to those mentally "challenged" will not stop them. They will just pick up someone else's gun or steal one. Additionally if there would be laws on the books prohibiting such the democrats could always use that to state all of us are mentally challenged to some degree and only police and military could own firearms.

How would today's nutcases have been handled 50 years ago? Family took the responsibility to keep their "unstable" offspring from guns/other weapons and kept them from entering society as someone normal. Family took care of them and family assumed any responsibility from their actions.

Family life today doesn't exist though for so many due to easy divorces, welfare, overpopulation, lack of drug enforcement, early paroles and sentences, lack of enforcement against the illegal alien invasion and lack of loyalty to family and this country and so on.

In short: it isn't going to end but perhaps can be reduced by greatly increasing deportation, capitol punishment, longer jail terms and just following common sense procedures. Our problems in the past weren't as widespread as now--we need to evaluate what all has changed and eliminate it.

It started with LBJ and his Great Society and has gone downhill since then. Personal responsibility went out the door, "free" love came in! It is society's fault that Jr. acts out in school so just give him drugs to settle him down. A pill for this or a pill for that. Cops use force in arresting and police brutality/investigation is screamed. Now "medicinal" weed is out to "help" people...wonder how this will play out?
People want to blame/ban things instead of the actor and the actor' helpers.
