they were soundly rejected, actually laughed off the range,,

found out years later from a local cop that the VSP and Feds had planted members to see if there were any 'nefarious right wing militia ' intentions in our club,,
Did they show up with SKSs and overt political opinions?

      no,

one guy had a M1A, ex Marine, and a damn good shot,
the State Team members tried to recruit him, and get him away from the 'cult' but it did not work,

leader was an avg guy, showed with an AUG,
had a fat old guy with mis matched camo that did not shoot, but his BDU top had Sniper and Ranger patches in the right places,,
after the second match he got tired of hearing a bunch of crap from us and stopped showing up,,
his excuses for not shooting was no scopes allowed, we said fine,, local match, use your scope,
oh,, it's not zeroed, left it at home,, need to reload etc etc,

several other guys that were not skilled, but could be,,

second match he started preaching, brought his wife (who supposedly bought him the AUG for his birthday) with him, who was not allowed to speak, and had to walk behind him,,

he shot like shiat,, several of us attempted to coach him but he wanted to use a rest,, etc etc,

after the 3rd match (Shot once a month) he was a bit adamant in speaking his mind and preaching,,,

we wanted to shoot, and told him so, bluntly,,

at the end of that match it was suggested, both as a group, and from some of us individually, that he was welcome with his friends to shoot,, but he best start getting the right equipment and shut up about non shooting stuff,,

      or not show up,,,

      have not seen him since,

around this same time, a compound maybe 2 hrs south of the range was known to be a 'black muslim radical commune' (and still is)
but they train on their own land,, and always have, and make the news about every 5-6 yrs,, for whatever reason

ETA, this range was (and still is in a smaller capacity) used by the local cops as a training place,
they (city and county) have since built their own range system, but then they did not have the funds so leased out club space,

after Clinton left office, we found out from one of the officers that some (feds and state) were here to shoot,, but to see if we were 'radicals' or not,

several of my friends (locals, I am 80 miles east) know or knew some higher ups in the local PD that spilled the beans afterwards

There is a huge difference between shooting at the range, gun collecting, and serious social shooting, (combat). Not many people are up for the latter.

You better believe that -- not many want to hear dead men whistle.
