Of course no one except the guy from the north had any idea of the history of the word "uppity" when applied as an adjective to blacks. So here's a quick link. DT gets to learn something new about the foreign land in which he resides as a resident non-citizen.

A lot of people have no idea that the word "uppity," when applied to black people, has racist connotations, but it's getting harder and harder to understand how public figures, in particular, are able to maintain their ignorance of the term's history.

Of course so says a liberal publication with their agenda. They must find fault with any thing they think is not liberal or is racist. That term has always been around for a long time and is not just used only against blacks.. Ray

Well not commonly used, and most infamously as a perjorative towards blacks who did not seem to know their place. DT's use was not the most apt. It's possible that he just didn't fully understand the word or perhaps simply didn't care about its history. One could say that 95% of references to uppity blacks will contain some level of bigotry. But as a foreigner perhaps DT gets a pass.

Well then should be no problem to produce lots of examples of "uppity black" not having racist overtones. I look forward to seeing them. It's not the word, it's the combination, and the message carried. I think you know that.

is it racist if black folk call other black folks uppity blacks?

is it racist if white folks call other white folks uppity white folk?

Dogtag is from the UK corrrect???

is is racist if a person from the UK calls another person from the UK uppity UK?

uppity is like snobby, or rich, or 'puts on airs'

                it's not a racist descriptor,,,

It's the combination, who uses it, and who has used it in the past. You know this. Literalism is a transparent defense. Now with respect to DT, who knows. He's English, but he's also been here awhile. Probably the phrase crossed his path once before. In any case, the phrases uppity white, or uppity Mexican, don't have the same history of use. Uppity white sounds downright odd. There's no obviously good reason for inserting race as a secondary adjective beyond impugning the race. One could say two uppity guys instead of two uppity blacks and save 3 letters while adding gender info to boot. Unless race is an important part of the message.

See now that's funny. Lyman, take notes. DT doesn't play obtuse, he gets right to the punch line.

Here's a guy who's actually quite easy to like, even if you don't agree with his politics. Definitely a smart guy. Can you regional natives place the accent?

You keep making racist remarks against almost any whites. You only approve of those that also hate whites.

And BB is 0 or 4 in his attempts to make any meaningful rebuttals to any of my posts. See you next month.
